This double-jointed bit is ergonomically designed with a central lozenge to be a comfortable fit in pony mouths. The mouthpiece is 12mm diameter and the cheekpieces measure 11cm in total.
The sweet iron is designed to rust when it comes into contact with humidity; this surface rust tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse's saliva production, encouraging soft acceptance of the bit.
This oxidisation process changes the blue colour of the Trust bit to a brownish-grey.
If a sweet iron bit is not used for a while, an orange-brown rust layer may develop on the mouthpiece. Simply remove this by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.
