6A 110/125V Male and Female Slip Plug

Key Features

  • Tool-Free IDC Technology: Features Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) that allow you to create custom-length extension cords instantly. Simply slide the wire into the channel and press the cap down; the internal prongs "bite" through the insulation to create a secure electrical connection.
  • Professional Grade 6A Rating: Specifically engineered to handle up to 6 Amps at 125V, making them ideal for powering long runs of LED or incandescent C7/C9 holiday light strings without overheating.
  • Polarized Safety Design: Designed with one wider prong (neutral) and one narrower prong (hot) to maintain proper electrical polarity throughout your display, a critical safety feature for modern outdoor lighting.
  • Heavy-Duty High-Impact Plastic: Manufactured from UV-stabilized, weather-resistant polymer that stays flexible in freezing temperatures, preventing the "snapping" or cracking common with cheaper seasonal plugs.
  • Ultra-Low Profile: The slim "slip" design allows these plugs to fit into tight spaces, behind shutters, or inside decorative greenery where standard bulky extension cord ends would be too large.

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Industry Standard Codes: SPT-1 Slip Plug, SPT-2 Gilbert Plug, Vampire Plug, Zip Plug.
  • Functional Equivalent: Green Holiday Zip Plugs, Quick-Connect Male/Female Ends.
  • General Specification: 6 Amp, 125 Volt, 2-Prong Polarized.

Compatibility & Fitment

These plugs are the gold standard for professional Christmas light installers and DIY enthusiasts. Key compatibility includes:

  • SPT-1 & SPT-2 Wire: Specifically designed for 18-gauge "Zip Cord." (Note: Ensure your wire type matches the plug's internal channel width for the most secure fit).
  • Custom C7/C9 Strings: Ideal for adding a male plug to the beginning of a custom-cut bulk spool or adding a female "inline" outlet to provide power to a different part of the roofline.
  • LED & Incandescent Displays: Compatible with all standard 120V holiday lighting technology.
  • Note: These are for use with un-polarized or polarized 18/2 wire only. They are not designed for use with heavy-duty 3-prong grounded cables.

When to Replace

  • Visible Burn Marks: If you see "arcing" or black charring inside the wire channel, the connection has become loose or the plug was overloaded.
  • Loose Mounting Caps: If the sliding back-cap no longer stays securely in place, the prongs may not be making consistent contact with the copper wire.
  • Bent or Loose Prongs: If the metal prongs are wobbly or bent, they can create excessive heat and pose a fire risk.
  • Corroded Internal Pins: In coastal or high-salt environments, the internal "vampire" teeth can corrode, leading to flickering lights or total power failure.

Installation Tips

  • The Polarity Rule (CRITICAL): On standard zip cord, one side of the insulation is "ribbed" and the other is "smooth." Always align the ribbed side of the wire with the wider (Neutral) prong of the plug to ensure your display is safely polarized.
  • Flush Cut (PRO TIP): Use a sharp pair of wire cutters to get a perfectly square, flush cut on the end of the wire before inserting it. Any stray copper strands touching the opposite prong will cause a short circuit.
  • The "Seat" Check: Before sliding the cap on, ensure the wire is pushed all the way to the end of the channel. For female plugs, make sure the wire doesn't protrude past the safety barrier.
  • Pliers for Pressure: While these are "slip" plugs, using a pair of pliers to gently squeeze the cap into the locked position ensures the prongs have fully penetrated the insulation for a maximum-conductivity connection.

reading this helped me pass the A+ core windows 1 exam and security plus
Format: Paperback
Problem is that I am 63 years old having earned the certificate and the industry doesn't seem to welcome older workers . I used to help maintain a fleet of printers at two large companies. I have read about other more experienced tech workers in their 50s getting jobs now working in pharma working at sterilization technicians because IT seems to be puking jobs.
