Granted exceptional status to play in the OHL a year early, Michael Misa has continued to improve in his time in the OHL prior to the draft, eventually leading him to be drafted 2nd overall by the San Jose Sharks. In his three years playing with the Spirit, Misa’s goals, assists, and points have improved each year. Misa helped the Saginaw Spirit win the Memorial Cup in 2024, defeating the London Knights. The following 2024-25 season, Misa would finish first in league scoring with 134 points, tying Patrick Kane for most goals in a draft-eligible season with 62. Further adding to his impressive draft resume, Misa would get awarded the Red Tilson Trophy for OHL MVP and the Bobby Smith Trophy for the OHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year. Misa has already won an NHL award too, getting awarded the E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence in 2025, given annually to the NHL draft prospect who best exemplifies the “commitment to excellence through strength of character, competitiveness, and athleticism”.
