This Martin Custom Shop Expert model is constructed with an artist's eye in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Beginning with a D-14 Fret dreadnought body design, this acoustic features an Adirondack spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Together, these two rich, historic tonewoods play with a refined, musical character as propelled by the model's many other high-quality appointments and specifications. For one, this model's body is assembled with vintage hide glue adhesive, a natural material with a build process and practice legacy measured in generations. Vintage hide glue adhesive, demanding a precise hand-assembly process from Martin's Custom Expert luthiers, welcomes a historic aspect to this thoroughly modern instrument.
Elements from Martin's acclaimed Authentic Series guitars are imported to this Custom Expert piece. The Adirondack spruce top's braces are one such example. This model's brace pattern assembles in an Authentic 1937 forward-shifted pattern with scalloped brace shapes. Inspired by Martin's landmark 1937 models, these Adirondack spruce braces impart a concision and balance to the overall tonal output of the model as the D-14 Fret shape plays with its trademark projection and bassy response.
The sonic engine of this guitar is bolstered by its playability. A 12/4 genuine mahogany neck enters the picture at this point in a Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 Barrel & Heel profile. Connecting with that all-important and historic Martin playability, this model is fit with a Standard Taper, making the overall feel firm yet fluid. The model's ebony fingerboard matches up with the neck with Martin's abalone Diamond & Square Long fret inlays that make fretting simply a dream.
At either end of this model's 25.4" scale length, we're met with reliable and sturdy hardware specifications. The base of the scale features a 1930s Style Belly ebony bridge with a glue-in bone long saddle while the scale's opposite end is lined with the headstock's Aged Waverly nickel open back tuning machines. Stringing is made easy with these specifications as this Custom Expert model plays solidly and responsively.
This Martin Custom Shop Expert model is detailed aesthetically and tangibly with a number of classy and classic Martin appointments. Antique White Boltaron binding wraps the model's body for a stark accent while Bold Herringbone top inlay adds an additional pop. A Style 28 Multi-Stripe rosette rounds the soundhole while the Adirondack spruce top's Vintage Toner color dips the model's appearance into a comfortably aged hue. This hue is then deepened by the model's overall Martin Stage 1 lightly aged gloss finish that pushes the guitar's presentation firmly into an authentically and artistically worn aesthetic. The model's lightly aged treatment captures the essence and subtle wear of a well-preserved Martin classic. This Martin Custom model is one of twenty-eight produced worldwide.
