The book uses imagery from other Eric Carle books alongside simple language to describe the connection between father and child, such as "Dad... The illustrations are simple, borrowing from past Eric Carle books to maintain his style, and showing the animals most related to the text (for instance, on the page with "but you're still cool" it features polar bears) on a white background. This is a simple style that will work well for little ones. The very hungry caterpillar appears on each page, almost hidden and could make for a fun and easy search for toddlers.
