Bij het werk van de laatste 20 jaar lijkt Lataster een groot arsenaal aan middelen ter beschikking te staan dat hij de uitdaging en de inspiratie steeds meer uit zijn directe omgeving kon putten. De personen en voorwerpen worden tastbaarder, driedimensioneler en minder symbolisch. Maar het sterk emotionele en expressionistische karakter van Latasters werk, dat altijd via de techniek wordt bereikt, blijft bepalend. Meer dan in de voorafgaande periode schept de schilder deze emotionaliteit vooral door het lichamelijker karakter dat personen en dingen hebben gekregen.
