Kauwen als alternatief voor slikken

Gels zijn vloeibaar en worden in één beweging opgenomen. Dat werkt goed voor veel atleten, maar bij langdurige inspanning kan smaakvermoeidheid of maagirritatie bij vloeibare suikers optreden. Een chew bar vereist kauwen, wat een heel ander gevoel geeft. De speekselklieren worden gestimuleerd, de kauwbeweging geeft mentaal het idee van eten in plaats van drinken, en de snelheid van inname is trager. Dat laatste kan voordelig zijn als je je maag wilt ontlasten maar toch koolhydraten binnen wilt houden.

1:0,8 verhouding in vaste vorm

De gels in de Beta Fuel lijn gebruiken maltodextrine en fructose. De chew bar gebruikt glucosestroop en fructosestroop. Het principe is hetzelfde: twee koolhydraatbronnen met twee verschillende transportroutes in de darm. Glucose via SGLT1 naar de spieren, fructose via GLUT5 naar de lever. De 1:0,8 verhouding verhoogt de oxidatie-efficiëntie van 62% naar 74% vergeleken met een 2:1 ratio. 45 gram koolhydraten per bar van 60 gram.

Zes blokjes per bar, elke keer 7 gram

De bar is gescoord in zes losse blokjes. Je kunt de bar op voorhand breken en de stukken in een zak bewaren zodat je ze één voor één kunt pakken. Of je trekt de bar open en breekt een stuk af terwijl je rijdt. Elk blokje levert ongeveer 7 gram koolhydraten. Voor de meeste atleten is dat genoeg voor een inname van 10 tot 15 minuten bij een tempo waarbij je niet wilt stoppen of lang bezig wilt zijn met eten.

De chew bar is bedoeld als aanvulling op of vervanging van gels in de Beta Fuel strategie. Voor wie lang rijdt of loopt en afwisseling wil tussen vloeibare en vaste energiebronnen, past hij goed naast de gels zonder de koolhydraatberekening te compliceren.

I'm a side sleeper and I've been having pillow issues over the last few years where I swear every pillow is either too tall, too thin, too soft to provide support, to firm and hurts my ears, or the stuffing is too slick or something and migrates away from wherever I put my head. It's been... A time. But this pillow has been wonderful! I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it's the perfect height for me! The latex inner chamber provides some much needed support, but the softer outer chamber gives me enough cushion to keep my ears from aching. I will say that, while this is the perfect height for me, personally, I think that if you're someone who prefers a pretty lofty pillow, that this might not be tall enough for you. I ordered the taller version, and it feels right for me, but I've noticed in my pillow buying extravaganza that even pillows that everyone else loves that are designed for side sleepers are usually just too tall for me. So if this pillow is right for me, and you prefer a pretty lofty pillow, I really bet that this won't be tall enough in that case. It's definitely more of a medium loft, rather than a very high loft

I have to testify about this pillow, my brothers and sisters. Ever since I hit my 30s, my body has gone down. Aches and pains. Pops. Crackles. Snaps. It’s ridiculous. The height of this pillow stabilizes my neck and shoulders perfectly. It is firm, but gives and contours to your neck and head. It’s a heavy pillow but I don’t even care. Truly I don’t think I’ll ever go back. This pillow has saved my shoulder and I’ll never stop thanking God for it. If you’re experiencing back, shoulder, or neck pain and are considering this pillow, just order it. Please. Just do it. I’m forever changed. But I’m still keeping 20 year old pillow… just for sentimental purposes. 😂

I knew I needed a very soft pillow - all the foam pillows I had bought recently to try to upgrade our home pilllow selection seemed ok to the touch but were still too firm once I tried them out, but recently I also had some neck pain that needed some gentle support and the old old foam pillow I had that was so very soft was losing its supportive qualities and the pain wasn’t getting better. I would buy more if we need more pillows, it’s perfect for me and I think would be comfortable for most people. I think you just need to figure out how firm you need your pillow and also height preference . I’m an all over sleeper -back, side, even belly sometimes, so it’s fine for me, but it is a little taller compared to other pillows I’ve bought recently. I didn’t compare/try other prominent pillow brands, mostly my experience is Ikea (my daughter uses a very flat and nice foam pillow from them that is even a little pricier than this one and it works well for her), and whatever brands happen to be available at target and Costco. This price point for a name brand is reasonable, I think; I was looking at other brands way over $100, and I was willing to spend that much for something that would work long term, so this one working was great. Also, this definitely does not have any cooling effect technology, which is fine by me, but something to consider if you do like cool pillows. (Although, PSA: I recently had to throw away older foam pillows that had those cooling gel panels because the gel panels started disintegrating into sticky ooze; gross and had to throw away whole pillow because couldn’t dissociate from rest of the pillow. Sad cuz the foam part of those pillows were fine.) Anyway, if you like softer pillows but want good support, this one works well and is worth trying!!
