De Mahonia eurybracteata 'Soft Caress' bloeit van augustus tot en met oktober met buitengewoon mooie gele bloemtrossen. In het najaar verschijnen er blauwe bessen die eetbaar zijn. Ze zijn wel wat zurig, maar rijk aan vitamine C! De bladeren zijn zacht en lijken op varens die ook nog eens groen blijven in de winter. Een prachtige aanwinst in je tuin! Belijk onder "Combineren met" onder suggesties voor plantcombinaties.

Aanplanten en standplaats

Mahonia eurybracteata 'Soft Caress' staat graag op een beschutte plaats, want deze mahoniestruik is matig winterhard. Bescherm de plant goed als er meer dan 12 graden (strenge) vorst is. Hij houdt van een zanderige humusrijke grond. Heb je dat niet, breng dan wat tuinturf aan in het plantgat. dus indien niet aanwezig wat tuinturf aanbrengen in het plantgat. Je kunt hem planten in combinatie met andere gele bloeiers, zoals de Toverhazelaar, of andere wintergroene planten zoals de Buxus of Camellia. Deze Mahonia kan ook heel goed solitair staan of in een heesterborder mits er schaduw is.
