As Leader of the Sages, Zelda is a key figure throughout the story. She set Link upon his grand adventure obtaining the three keys of the temple of time. After the fall of the Hyrule by the hand of Ganondorf, Zelda when into hidden dawning the name Sheik. As Sheik, Zelda passes herself off as a male Sheikah. Throughout the Link's journey, Sheik aids him, who is initially not privy to Sheik's true identity, by providing him with information and teaching him teleportation songs with a lyre.

Sheik's physical appearance and frequent usage of Deku Nuts as a means to vanish quickly is decidedly reminiscent of a typical ninja.

Sheik waited for Link at the Temple of Time to reveal himself to be Zelda but also the seventh Sage. However, Ganondorf found her and abducted her to his tower. Link went after him and freed her, causing Ganondorf to change into Ganon. While Link battle against his new form, Zelda prepared for her role as Sage from the sideline, after Ganon fell, she united her powers with the other Sages to lock him away in the sacred realm. After that, she and Link had a private conversation about all that had happened since they met, and Zelda revealed that she wished to use her powers as a Sage to return Link to the past, so time could flow as it should've done.
