Yemeni Myrrh:
Our Foundational Myrrh
Sourced from the remote island of Socotra in the Arabian Sea. This is Commiphora Kua myrrh. A rare and powerful resin gathered from trees that grow in one of the most isolated botanical environments on earth.
Socotra has evolved in geographic separation for millions of years. Nearly a third of its plant life exists nowhere else. The myrrh trees that grow here produce a resin that is dense rich and deeply aromatic. Large tears form slowly on the bark and harden into heavy golden brown and dark amber chunks.
This is the myrrh that anchors our work with Commiphora resins.
Ethically and Traditionally Harvested
Our myrrh comes from small harvests gathered by local Socotran collectors who know the landscape and the trees intimately. The resin is tapped carefully and gathered by hand once it hardens on the bark.
Harvesting follows seasonal rhythms that protect the trees and allow the resin to form naturally. These methods have been practiced for generations and remain the foundation of sustainable myrrh gathering on the island.
Aromatic Profile
Deep. Warm. Expansive.
Myrrh opens with a rich earthy aroma that carries hints of spice smoke and dark balsamic sweetness. Beneath that lies a mineral depth that feels grounding and contemplative. Less bright than frankincense yet profoundly steady.
It moves inward rather than upward. A resin of depth reflection and ancient stillness.
Why It Matters
Socotran myrrh is a cornerstone resin in the SmokeWalkers collection.
The tears are larger and denser than many commercial myrrh resins and carry a powerful aromatic body. This resin has long been used in incense medicine perfumery and ceremonial preparations across the Middle East Africa and Asia.
It is also the resin we use for our long maceration infusions including our Myrrh Infused Jojoba Oil where the resin slowly releases its deeper compounds over time.
Suggested Use
Burning on charcoal
Infusions and oil macerations
Myrrh tea or decoctions
Incense or perfumery
Ritual or meditative work
Or kept whole as a collector’s resin
