In Free to Learn, developmental psychologist Peter Gray, argues that in order to foster children who will thrive in today's constantly changing world, we must entrust them to steer their own learning and development.

  • Print Length: 289 pages
  • Drawing on evidence from anthropology, psychology and history, he demonstrates that free play is the primary means by which children learn to control their lives, solve problems, get along with peers, and become emotionally resilient.
  • A brave, counterintuitive proposal for freeing our children from the shackles of the curiosity-killing institution we call school, Free to Learn suggests that its time to stop asking what's wrong with our children, and start asking what's wrong with the system.
  • It shows how we can act - both as parents and as members of society to improve children's lives and to promote their happiness and learning.
  • "Free to Learn is a courageous and profoundly important book. Peter Gray joins the likes of Richard Louv and Alfie Kohn in speaking out for a more humane, compassionate and effective approach to education." -Frank Forencich, author of Exuberant Animal and Change Your Body, Change the World
  • "Free to Learn provides us with deep, carefully researched insights into the connections between freedom, learning and play.... If you are involved with children, education, unschooling, free ranging, or anything having to do with play, Free to Learn is something you'll want to read, own, share, and give to everyone you know who cares about the lives of our children and the future of our world." -DeepFun.com
  • "In Free to Learn, a passionate paean to the kind of free play and free learning exemplified by Smiths example, Peter Gray, an evolutionary psychologist at Boston College, makes a largely compelling case that children learn best when unencumbered by adult-imposed activities and institutions." -American Journal of Play

Creative and well made!
Color: Squirrel
This is a great dog toy, durable, creative, and it kept my dogs busy and very, very interested. It's challenging enough, but not frustrating. Great for tug of war, too!

Looks like fun but NO
Was so excited to get this and slow my girls down eating their treats and engage them in play. How big do the treats have to be? Because I had to scoop wet gross chewed up treats out of each pocket, vacuum, and put them in the washing machine AFTER my girls abandoned them with the treats still in the pockets. GREAT IDEA but not functional. Agressive chewers would have destroyed the toy the first time. SO DISAPPOINTED

Cute and well made, fun toy for dogs of all sizes.
Color: Frog (Green)
My small dogs luv this toy, especially the handle part for playing tug of war. My peekapoo is only 14 lbs. but he loves to get a grip on the handle with his mouth and tug really hard which also stretches the body and makes the crunchy noises! My chihuahua loves it too and she tries to grab the eyes with her mouth. It is a very well made toy with a squeaker and light stuffing in the head which makes me feel good about letting them play with it. It is strong and very cute and I think they will have it for a long time.

Octopus dog toy
My dogs love this toy! They love to play tug of war with it, using the rope legs. The legs will pull out if they are strong dogs! But if the dogs are having fun with it, it isn't a problem. One of my dogs has shredded some of the legs and put a hole in yhe body, but she is a strong chewer. There is a squeaker in the octopus body. They enjoy the toy, so I would recommend it.

Decent toy! Dog ripped off legs after a couple days.
As the title says the toy was pretty durable and it’s made of a good rubber which makes it durable. My dog is a medium sized pomsky and she had a hard time gripping the shell part. I stuffed the middle part with treats which by the way DO NOT do that. My dog got really frustrated bc the treats weren’t coming out and idk what happened bc she ended up gagging and coughing. No throw up tho so good enough for me. While my review seems pretty daunting it’s really not a bad toy if you make sure to keep an eye on the rope appendages.
