Extra Large Handmade Natural Wool Rug measuring 12 ft 2 in x 8 ft 2 in (370 cms  x 251 cm approx.), originally hand woven in the town of Kayseri, located in Central Anatolia, Turkey. Kayseri has a long and rich history as one of the finest carpet making Villages in the region. In order to achieve the intricate floral designs for which these carpets are renowned, these rugs are often woven from natural, locally sourced sheep wool on a cotton foundation. Hand spun wool and natural dyes are used in the majority of Kayseri rugs. This rug features repeated, delicate floral design motifs in soft shades pf pink, blue, green and black on a white / cream central field which is complimented by the contrasting wide pink and narrower navy blue borders. This design and color combination is very typical of quality Kayseri rugs woven in the mid 20th Century, primarily intended for the commercial/export market, which combine rudimentary Village weaving with the more sophisticated Town rug traditions. The originally rich colors of this rug have naturally softened over time. Tightly woven and with low pile, these rugs are suitable for use under furniture as well as providing a central focal point in a large room
