Envisioned as the first light car to surpass 100 mph, the Bamford & Martin Single Seater Team Car—better known as the “Razor Blade”—is one of the most remarkable early Aston Martins. Its name came from its extraordinarily slim body, measuring just 18.5 inches (47 cm) across at its widest point, making it the narrowest racing car ever built. Originally codenamed Oyster, the car was designed with an enclosed, aircraft-style cockpit, but this proved too cramped for most drivers, forcing the team to adopt a more practical open-top solution. Built in collaboration with the de Havilland Aircraft Company, the car featured smooth, aerodynamic bodywork and an inswept chassis that narrowed dramatically towards the rear, giving it both a distinctive silhouette and exceptional straight-line speed. Beneath the streamlined skin lay a bespoke four-cylinder, twin overhead cam, 16-valve race engine—developed for the 1922 French Grand Prix—which produced 55 hp.

In its 1923 record attempt at Brooklands, driven by Bentley Boy S.C.H. “Sammy” Davis, the Razor Blade consistently lapped at 103–104 mph, though repeated front tyre failures forced the run to be abandoned. While it missed the outright 100 mph record, the car soon proved its mettle in competition. On its debut that August, Major Frank Halford—himself a de Havilland engineer—took it to victory at Brooklands. Further success followed later that year, with the Razor Blade setting records in the standing-start mile (74.12 mph, Herbert Kensington-Moir) and kilometre (66.54 mph, Halford). With its radical design, advanced engineering, and early competition triumphs, the Aston Martin Razor Blade stands as a pioneering machine that secured its place in both automotive and motorsport history.

Amalgam Collection and Alan Thornton

Amalgam is delighted to partner with artist Alan Thornton to introduce a collection of Half Tone Flat Bed prints. Precise and technical in nature, these prints isolate the subject, laying the image onto Alan’s signature metallic background, that focuses the viewer’s eye on the sculptural, organic qualities of iconic cars and planes. Alan’s obsession with form, function and beauty, combined with his enduring passion for all things automotive and mechanical, align perfectly with Amalgam’s mission.

The Process

A reprographic technique that simulates continuous-tone imagery through the use of dots, thus generating a gradient-like effect, Alan's Half Tone artwork brings his traditional approach to screen printing into the contemporary digital world. Applied directly on to the brushed aluminium composite panels, the ink is then cured by a UV light that bonds it to the surface of the substrate, resulting in a resistant and long-lasting work of art that can even be displayed in outdoor exhibitions. This approach opens up endless ways to add texture and depth by building the image up in multiple layers, very much like the screen-printing process. The finished image is waterproof and very resistant to abrasion, so that there is no need to protect the art behind glass. The piece can be hung without a frame, creating a sharp and minimal presentation of the art floating less than an inch (15 mms) off of the wall. The piece can also be traditionally framed and hung if desired. Alan’s work in this medium brings exceptional precision, intensity, and glamour to the finished art.

Handling Your Print

Half Tone Flat Bed prints are supplied with a subframe attached to the back, enabling immediate ‘float’ effect hanging on the wall. The finished image is waterproof and very resistant to abrasion, so that there is no need to protect the art behind glass.

Half Tone Flat Bed Fine Art Prints of the Aston Martin 'Razor Blade' are limited to just 10 copies. By purchasing this print, you agree and consent to your information being shared with Alan Thornton for use in the fulfilment of your order.

Unbelievable toy for aggressive chewers
Color: Green Cactus
Great toy for aggressive chewers! I'm not one to hand out 5 star reviews but this one I 100% believe in. I bought the first one in 2023 and just replaced it because it broke. Now this is not a played with every once in a while, this was played with daily as it is his favorite toy. Very few toys last long but this one has went beyond my expectations. Could not be happier.

Not Recommended!
Color: Green Cactus
Be aware that with major chewers it is not durable. My dog tour right through it and was eating pieces off of it. Thankfully we got the pieces back out of his mouth but definitely not for tough chewers. Also only lasted 2 days in decent condition and was only used on the occasion throughout the day.

Not strong lasting
Color: Green Cactus
Didn’t even last 3 hours in my house. Too rubbery and our frenchie mix was able to bite pieces off and was trying to eat them. Don’t recommend as a super chewer or consider it durable

Very durable!
Color: Pink Cactus
One of the few actually tough chew toys for dogs who tear apart toys in seconds! My dog loves this thing and has yet to break into the rubber!
