Winemaker: Erinn Klein

Grape(s): Viognier, Pink  Semillon, Pinot Gris and Gewürtztraminer

GI: Adelaide Hills (Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia)

Site(s): Ngeringa Vineyards

Inspired by wines tasted during our travels through Tuscany, this is a divine oxidative style sweat wine. Made from estate-grown Ngeringa fruit, predominantly Viognier and Pink Semillon, and smaller quantities of Pinot Gris and Gewürtztraminer

Vintage notes: We have changed direction slightly with our approach to this wine from a single vintage blend to a blend of multiple vintages. This blend was bottled in August 2022 and is a blend of vintages from 2014 to 2018.

Winemaking: The grapes are gently hand-harvested, placed on re-purposed timber drying racks (previously used on the Jurlique Herb Farms for drying herbs and flowers) and left for 3 to 6 weeks to double their sugar concentration by process of dehydration. The dried grapes are then pressed over several days, into an old French barrique, where they remain outside in the elements for five or more years, to allow for fermentation and oxidative maturation. The final product is lovingly estate bottled into 375ml bottles.

Wild fermentation, spontaneous malolactic fermentation, no temperature control. No fining. Estate bottled for your own special occasion.

Tasting notes: A golden nectar; rich sweet and complex with concentrated notes of dried apricots, figs, prunes, cedar and burnt caramel. On the palate, the Altus has vibrant characters of raisin and honey, blended with hints of turkish delight and crème caramel. Lingering flavours, like the sweetest of memories, promise to keep your tastebuds smiling for hours.White

Classic design and good sturdy quality

Let's just address the elephant in the room. My family says I am cheap, but I call it thrifty. Either way, I bought a couple of cork screws earlier that left like they would break at any moment when pushing down the arms, and after a few bottles, one arm did bend. So this time, i paid attention to the reviews and chose these cork screws as the review said they are solid quality. The review was correct. This design is pretty fool proof and easy for anyone to use. You do not need super human strength to pull the cork. Just remove the foil, screw the sharp coil into the cork until the arms have reached the top of their range, the place the bottle on a hard surface and push both arms down. Easy peasy. The bad openers I mentioned earlier did not have anything on the opener arms and the metal was thin. It did not provide a good feel. These cork screws have thicker arms and have a rubber grip on them which provides a much more comfortable operation. I would definitely recommend these cork screws for quality and value.

Good wine opener, not great
Color: Silver, Number of Items: 1
Definitely doesn’t feel as robust as other openers I’ve used. Takes a bit for the teeth to catch and you have to ensure it’s all the way in before pulling the cork out. Still gets the job done though

great addition to your wine collection

The wine opener works just fine. I had one like this before but it was difficult to get the cork out. This one is much easier and it also looks good as well. The handles add a nice touch.

I had had it with cheaply functioning wine bottle openers!
Color: Silver, Number of Items: 1
I like a manually functioning wine bottle opener. This one is smooth and easy to use and I didn't feel like I would cut my finger when removing the cork from the opener. Would definitely recommend!
