Вони продовжують впливати на нас підсвідомо і виражаються у нашому способі поведінки та розумінні теперішнього. Інакше кажучи, вони продовжують жити у формі 'безcвідомих колективних спогадів'. Контроль над пам’яттю суспільства великою мірою обумовлює єрархію влади. Наше сприйняття теперішнього залежить від нашого знання про минуле – ми переживаємо теперішнє через призму подій чи об’єктів з минулого, пов’язуючи формування і перебіг теперішнього з тим, що сталося попередньо. У цьому процесі важливу роль відіграє соціальна пам’ять: образи з минулого зазвичай 'виправдовують'/легітимізують соціальний лад теперішнього. Коннертон намагається зрозуміти, як саме пам’ять груп підтримується та передається наступним поколінням. Він переконаний у тому, що існує певна інерція соціальних структур, яка не знайшла адекватного пояснення у світлі жодної сучасної теорії про те, чим є соціальні структури.

Great Outdoor Pickleballs for Practice and Games
