ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is an abridged version of the 2-day Power Transmission and Distribution Course. This course is designed such that engineers of almost any specialty can take away a commensurate amount of knowledge with little or no background in the field of electrical engineering. This course covers the flow of power from power generating plants all the way to point of use. This course begins with coverage of electrical power concepts in the DC, Single Phase AC and Three Phase AC realms in an easy to follow approach, illustrated and reinforced by practical applications, examples and numerical case studies or problems. Voltage, current and power measurement instrumentation is introduced explained through examples and applications. The important concept of power factor, and it’s remediation, is discussed and explained from various, easy to relate to, perspectives. The seminar then segues into the topic of the US power grid and Smart Grid. The US power grid’s vital statistics are introduced and explained through explicit illustrations, diagrams and pictures. The course then moves into an introduction followed by an in-depth discussion on power transmission lines. Characteristics, nuances and conventional applications of transmission lines are delved into, supported by numerous transmission line related mathematical problem examples. The participants are introduced to transmission line components. The discussion then flows downstream of transmission lines, into substations. Substations, substation components and their roles in a typical substation are discussed and illustrated through diagrams and pictures. The power transmission journey, in this course, is concluded with and in-depth coverage of power distribution systems. The coverage of power transmission and distribution would be incomplete without delineating electrical safety. Hence, course participants are provided a brief introduction to NEC, NESC and NFPA 70 E. This course is designed for engineers, professional engineers, energy professionals, engineering managers, technical professionals, technicians, facilities managers and other professionals who are not intimately familiar with power transmission and distribution. Participants are kept engaged through questions and answers, discussions and classwork.

Objectives & Take-Aways
1. After attending this course, you will be refreshed on, or introduced to, the principles
and concepts of AC and DC power, and associated important concepts like power
factor, service factor, load factor, etc. This knowledge facilitates better
comprehension of power transmission and distribution systems.
2. You will appreciate the complexity of AC Power versus DC Power and know the
formulas for performing power and current analysis in AC and DC Systems, which
form the premise of power transmission and distribution design.
3. You will understand how addition of power factor correcting capacitors results in
improvement of power factor in AC power distribution systems while power factor on
long distance transmission lines presents a completely different challenge.
4. You will understand how power transmission and power distribution system
instrumentation works; all supported by explicit diagrams and illustrations.
5. You will get an introduction to the United States Power Grid and Smart Grid, their
complexities, strengths and weaknesses.
6. You will gain an understanding of power transmission lines, what they composed
of, their types, specifications, ratings; all culminating to power transmission line
resistance, reactances, and impedance calculations - all explained and illustrated in a
manner that is easy to follow by any engineer.
7. After this seminar, you will be able recognize power transmission line components,
all supported by illustrations and pictures.
8. After attending this course, you will know what substations look like and consist of
(substation components); again, supported by pictures, diagrams, and illustrations.9. You will understand what power distribution systems consist of and how they differ
from power transmission systems; all illustrated and explained through pictures and
illustrations.
10. You will learn about power transmission and distribution safety approaches,
measures, zones and associated instrumentation.
11. Upon completion this course you will be familiar with codes, such as, NESC,
NEC and NFPA, which must be complied with in the design of power transmission
and distribution systems.

Why you shouldn’t miss this course – How this course can benefit you, your
organizations, and what is unique about this course:
1. Have you ever felt somewhat inadequate and ill-equipped in your technical interface
with electrical power transmission and distribution engineers, technicians and
electricians? If so, then this seminar is a must.
2. Do you, as an engineer, manager, or technician, feel that your knowledge and
understanding of the difference between AC and DC power and their
transmission is inadequate or incomplete, then you must not miss this seminar.
3. How often do you get a chance to attend a workshop, course, or a seminar that is
presented by the author of the book on relevant subject matter – live, face-to-face? In
this seminar, you will have the opportunity to interact and learn from Bobby Rauf,
the author of the text, titled, “Electrical Engineering for Non-Electrical
Engineers.”
4. As an engineer, technician or manager have you ever found the concepts of power
transmission, power distribution, power substations, power factor, load factor,
horsepower, apparent power, reactive power, real power, impedance, and threephase versus single phase elusive and hard to comprehend? Then, this seminar will
present an excellent opportunity to remedy that.
5. How often do you get an opportunity to understand abstract and complex
electrical concepts through relatively simple analogies, explanation and
illustrations? This seminar will provide you that invaluable opportunity.
6. Some workshops and seminars end up being monotonous monologues from the
presenter to the audience. Not this one! In this seminar, you will get an opportunity
to exercise the skills and concepts through classwork and discussions with the
instructor and other participants.

Who should attend:
- Licensed Professional Engineers from all engineering disciplines, who need to
meet the annual or biennial license renewal PDH (Professional Development Hour) or
CEU (Continuing Education Units) requirements.
- Engineers and Architects who do not possess current working knowledge of
electrical power transmission and distribution, and associated
components/technologies.
- Facility Managers, Engineering Managers, Program/Project Managers and
other executives or leaders who feel a lack of adequate electrical power transmission
and distribution knowledge to hold meaningful discussions and to make informed
decisions with interacting with their electrical power subordinates, peers, or
colleagues.
- Non-engineers, including technical writers responsible for developing operations
and maintenance manuals for power transmission and distribution equipment.- Procurement/purchasing professionals who are responsible for acquisition of power
transmission and distribution equipment and services.
- Candidates aspiring to take the FE or PE exams.
- Maintenance Engineers and Maintenance Managers
- Other professionals who’s annual PLP, Performance and Learning Program,
includes engineering/technical courses/seminars/workshops.

Subpar everything
Format: Hardcover
I read almost all the new Batman comics that come out...I haven't been this disappointed in a book in a LOOOOONG time. So boring. Bad art. Bad dialogue. Superficial/basic characters. No emotion. Half-baked Elseworlds universe (if you going to make some changes - make it worth it!). I could go on. When it got to the "big twist" at the end, my eyes rolled so hard I got a headache. I wish I didn't waste my money on this.

Better than the Chronicles
Format: Paperback
I hope DC keeps on publishing these omnibus series up to the silver age and also the softcover option. I much prefer these new softcover editions over the older chronicles series for several reasons. These STGA softcovers are very big almost twice the stories compared to the chronicles and at a very affordable price. Actually a very good price. Also the paper is one hundred times better, I hated the chronicles' paper. Amazon is wonderful too, they now deliver my comics to my house in Costa Rica in less than a couple of weeks, they always arrive before the scheduled time. Excellent service. The only thing to complain is the reproduction. I consider that Marvel makes better efforts than DC to restore their GA stuff. The Cory Sedlemeier books like the Marvel Comics Golden Age omnibus look like they were drawn this morning. DC is usually quite cheaper and prefers not invest in that. So we get the same results as the old early 2000s Archives. I know today it is impossible to get original art pages of action comics 1-10 But I still think that compared to Marvel DC is very lazy and a skintflint when it comes to restoring their old books.

Got it for my college class, it was a required text.
Format: Paperback
Got this book for one my college class, no joke this was a required text. But overall it was an okay read, only reason why I gave it a 4 out 5 is because I prefer to read books for enjoyment and interest, reading a book for class takes that away.
