The Pilot Custom Urushi Fountain Pen - Vermillion brings the warmth of traditional Japanese lacquer to an oversize, quietly commanding silhouette. Built on an ebonite core and finished by hand in layered vermillion urushi, it glows with a depth and luster that only natural lacquer achieves. Anchored by one of Pilot's largest 18k gold nibs, it offers a composed, confident character that rewards both daily notes and extended sessions at the desk.

Craftsmanship & Design

Urushi is a living finish. Applied in successive coats, cured in a controlled cabinet, and polished by hand, it creates a surface of remarkable gloss and depth while preserving the warmth of the ebonite beneath. The vermillion tone carries a cultural resonance in Japan, long associated with celebration and protection, and here it reads as vivid yet dignified against the pen's classic gold-plated accents.

The Custom Urushi's generous proportions are balanced rather than bulky. Subtle curvature through the cap and barrel, a broad cap band, and Pilot's signature clip keep the design purposeful and timeless. In the hand, the lacquered ebonite warms quickly, lending a tactile, organic feel that modern synthetics rarely match.

Writing Experience

The No. 30 18k gold nib is tuned for smoothness and dependable flow, delivering a broad sweet spot with gentle responsiveness rather than softness. Available in Medium-Fine, Medium, and Broad, it suits precise drafting as readily as expressive, shading-rich handwriting. The pen settles into a steady rhythm, encouraging unhurried lines and crisp character formation.

Filling is practical and generous. The cartridge converter system accepts Pilot proprietary cartridges for convenience, and the included CON-70 push-button converter offers ample capacity for longer stretches between refills. Together with the pen's balanced weight and secure screw cap, the Custom Urushi favors long, uninterrupted writing without fatigue.

Brand Heritage

Pilot has produced fine writing instruments in Japan since 1918, uniting in-house nib making with a lacquer tradition that flourishes under its Namiki atelier. The Pilot Custom Urushi sits where daily reliability meets artisanal finish, marrying a modern, precision-built mechanism with a hand-applied urushi surface that will develop a quiet patina of use over time. It is a considered expression of Japanese craft, designed to be used and appreciated for decades.

Pretty funny
Format: Hardcover
The book gives us a more focused outlook on Chieg Wiggum. Full of its funny moments, I`d recomend this to huge Simpsons fans as it seems the shows writers managed to give us another hit.

Not the best, but not the worst either
Format: Hardcover
By any means not the funniest book in the series, only the one on Krusty the Clown was more un-funny; but still a worthy addition to your collection and, just like all the others from the series providing a retrospective of anecdotes you might have forgotten.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.
