4B&S (20.29mm²) Red Single Core Automotive Cable: High-Current Power Delivery for Demanding Vehicle Systems

Engineered for Reliable 12V, 24V, and 48V Automotive and Marine Applications

The 4B&S (20.29mm²) red single core automotive cable is purpose-built to handle high-current loads in vehicle electrical systems, from starter motor circuits to auxiliary battery banks and high-power accessories. With a 135A amp rating at 30°C (derating factors apply), this cable provides a robust pathway for power where standard wiring falls short. Its oxygen-free copper conductor and 90°C rated PVC insulation ensure consistent performance under the bonnet, in chassis runs, or within marine environments.

Unlike generic automotive wire, this cable uses fine-stranded copper for superior flexibility and vibration resistance, reducing the risk of fatigue failure in mobile installations. The thick insulation wall resists abrasion, oil, and fuel, making it suitable for engine bays and exposed underbody routing. Whether you're wiring a dual-battery system, a high-output alternator, or a large inverter, this cable delivers the current capacity and durability required.

Key Features

  • 135A current rating at 30°C — supports high-demand circuits with minimal voltage drop
  • 20.29mm² cross-sectional area — equivalent to 4B&S gauge, ideal for long cable runs
  • Oxygen-free copper conductor — maximises conductivity and resists corrosion
  • Fine-stranded construction — enhances flexibility for easier routing in tight spaces
  • 90°C PVC insulation — withstands engine bay heat and resists common automotive fluids
  • Rated to 120V DC maximum — suitable for 12V, 24V, and 48V systems
  • RoHS compliant — meets Australian and New Zealand safety standards

Why Cable Quality Matters in High-Current Circuits

Inadequate cabling is a common cause of voltage drop, overheating, and unreliable system performance. This 4B&S cable uses high-purity copper with a low electrical resistance of 0.9 ohm/km at 20°C, minimising energy loss across the conductor. The result is more efficient power transfer to your starter motor, winch, or auxiliary battery, and reduced heat buildup that can degrade insulation over time.

For installations where multiple cables are bundled or ambient temperatures exceed 30°C, derating is essential. *Note typical derating factors apply: for example, two cables bundled together require a 0.8 multiplier, reducing the effective ampacity to 108A. Always consult a professional installer to ensure compliance with system design and safety requirements.

Applications Beyond Standard Automotive Wiring

While optimised for automotive battery and starter circuits, this cable excels in a range of high-power 12V, 24V, and 48V applications:

  • Dual-battery systems in 4WDs, caravans, and camper trailers
  • High-output alternator and starter motor upgrades
  • DC-DC charger and solar charge controller connections
  • Large inverter installations (up to 120V DC)
  • Marine electrical systems requiring tinned copper alternatives (note: this is bare copper; consider tinned for direct saltwater exposure)
  • General high-current wiring in trucks, buses, and agricultural machinery

Built for Australian Conditions

Manufactured to stringent standards, this cable is designed to cope with the vibration, temperature extremes, and under-bonnet conditions typical of Australian vehicles. The robust PVC jacket provides excellent resistance to abrasion, oil, and fuel, while the fine-stranded copper core withstands repeated flexing without work-hardening and cracking.

Selecting the correct cable gauge is critical for safety and performance. The 4B&S size offers a practical balance between current capacity and physical dimensions (8.3mm O.D.), fitting through standard grommets and conduit while supporting loads up to 135A. For even higher currents, consider stepping up to 2B&S or larger.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5
