Repashy Grub Pie is one of the most distinctive insectivore feeding solutions available in the UK — a 75% insect-based meal replacement gel premix designed specifically for insectivorous reptiles and amphibians. Where most reptile foods rely on processed pellets or commercial mixes with limited insect content, Grub Pie centres its formula on cold-pressed Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) meal as the dominant ingredient, with a smell and flavour profile that genuinely triggers feeding response in species that often refuse processed foods. Even bearded dragons, skinks, monitors, salamanders, and geckos that show no interest in freeze-dried insects or pelleted commercial foods have been documented as accepting Grub Pie readily on first offering.

What makes Grub Pie particularly worth keeping is the combination: authentic insectivore nutrition that matches what these species would eat naturally, gel-format flexibility allowing varied feeding presentations (gel, jerky, slurry, or paste), and the convenience of storing dry powder long-term rather than maintaining live insect colonies as the sole protein source. For keepers running serious reptile/amphibian collections alongside bioactive vivarium setups, Grub Pie genuinely complements live feeders rather than replacing them — providing reliable supplementary nutrition and emergency feeding options when live insects aren't available.

For PostPods customers running combined isopod/reptile setups — bearded dragon vivariums with cleanup crews, dart frog enclosures with bioactive substrate, gecko enclosures with springtail cultures — Grub Pie sits naturally alongside Repashy's terrestrial range (Bug Burger, Morning Wood) as the specialist reptile insectivore option. Unlike the aquatic Repashy products (Bottom Scratcher, Soilent Green), Grub Pie is fundamentally a terrestrial product matching the PostPods customer base.

Available in 85g, 170g, and 340g sizes. Currently sold out across all variants — restock when available.

What Is Grub Pie?

Grub Pie is an "insectivore gel premix" — worth explaining what this category delivers:

Insectivorous species are reptiles, amphibians, and birds whose natural diet consists primarily of insects: bearded dragons, leopard geckos, fat-tailed geckos, day geckos, skinks, dwarf monitors, salamanders, axolotls, anoles, chameleons, and similar species. In the wild, these animals eat crickets, mealworms, soldier fly larvae, beetles, moths, caterpillars, and varied invertebrate prey. Commercial reptile foods often fail to replicate this nutritional profile authentically.

The "75% insect content" is genuinely distinctive among reptile foods. The primary ingredient is cold-pressed Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) meal — insects raised in the USA on high-quality ingredients then processed to preserve nutritional value. This isn't a small percentage of insect content added to fish meal or plant-based base; it's an insect-dominated formula that authentically matches insectivore dietary needs.

The "gel premix" format means you receive Grub Pie as a fine powder that you reconstitute with boiling water before feeding. This isn't a flaw — it's a feature. Pre-made insect gel foods spoil quickly. Powder premixes have dramatically longer shelf life and let you prepare exactly what you need per feeding. The format also enables multiple feeding presentations — gel cubes, jerky strips, slurry pastes — letting you match what your specific species accepts most readily.

The BSFL Advantage

The choice of Black Soldier Fly Larvae as the primary ingredient is genuinely significant for insectivore nutrition:

Naturally high in calcium. Unlike crickets and mealworms (which have inverted calcium-to-phosphorus ratios that require dusting with calcium powder), BSFL contain naturally favourable calcium levels. This makes Grub Pie a more complete nutritional source than feeding plain crickets without supplementation.

Strong scent triggers feeding response. BSFL has a distinctive smell and flavour that triggers an almost instinctual feeding response in insectivorous species. Animals that refuse processed pellets or freeze-dried insects often accept Grub Pie on first offering — particularly valuable for difficult feeders, juveniles learning to accept supplementary foods, or animals recovering from illness.

High-quality, controlled protein. BSFL raised in the USA on high-quality ingredients delivers consistent protein quality. Unlike wild-caught insects (which can vary based on diet and environmental factors), commercial BSFL has predictable nutritional content.

Lower fat profile than mealworms. BSFL have a more favourable fat content than mealworms, supporting healthier long-term feeding without the obesity risks associated with mealworm-heavy diets.

Highly digestible. BSFL protein is more digestible than many alternative insect meals, meaning more nutrients absorbed and less waste produced.

What Animals Benefit Most from Grub Pie?

Grub Pie is designed for insectivorous reptiles and amphibians. Specific species that thrive on it:

Bearded dragons. One of the most popular Grub Pie applications. Adult beardies benefit from the high-protein insectivore formula as part of varied diets. Juveniles particularly thrive on Grub Pie's authentic insect content during rapid growth phases. The natural calcium content reduces supplementation needs compared to plain insect feeding.

Leopard geckos and fat-tailed geckos. These notoriously food-stubborn species often accept Grub Pie readily despite refusing other processed foods. The strong BSFL scent triggers their feeding response. Useful for picky individuals, recovering animals, or supplementing exclusive mealworm diets.

Day geckos and crested geckos. While crested geckos are typically fed Repashy's specific crested gecko diet, day geckos benefit from Grub Pie as their primary protein source. The slurry/paste preparation works particularly well for arboreal feeding.

Skinks. Blue-tongued skinks, pink-tongued skinks, and other skink species accept Grub Pie willingly. The insect-based formula matches their natural insectivorous tendencies.

Dwarf monitors. Ackies, dwarf monitors, and similar small monitor species benefit from Grub Pie's high-protein insect content. Useful for juveniles in particular.

Salamanders and newts. Tiger salamanders, fire salamanders, and similar species accept Grub Pie readily. The gel format works well for aquatic and terrestrial salamander feeding.

Anoles and small lizards. Green anoles, brown anoles, and similar small insectivorous lizards benefit from Grub Pie as part of varied diets.

Chameleons. Some chameleon keepers successfully use Grub Pie as supplementary feeding alongside live insects. Acceptance varies by individual chameleon and species.

Dart frogs. While dart frogs typically need very small live prey (springtails, fruit flies), some keepers use Grub Pie slurry as supplementary protein for larger dart frog species. Best used alongside primary live feeders rather than as a replacement.

Tegus and larger lizards. Argentine tegus and similar larger species can use Grub Pie as supplementary protein, though they typically need additional whole-prey items for complete nutrition.

Why Choose Grub Pie Over Plain Insect Feeding?

For keepers wondering whether Grub Pie replaces or supplements live insect feeding:

It supplements rather than replaces. Repashy's own recommendation is feeding Grub Pie as part of a balanced diet, not as exclusive nutrition. Live insects (crickets, dubia roaches, mealworms, BSFL larvae) should remain a core dietary component. Grub Pie adds value as supplementary feeding, emergency option when live insects aren't available, and variety in the overall feeding regime.

Convenience and shelf life. Maintaining live insect colonies for daily feeding requires time and space commitment many keepers can't sustain. Grub Pie offers the option of going without live insects for short periods (holiday cover, periods when colonies are crashed, emergency situations) while maintaining proper insectivore nutrition.

Calcium fortification. Grub Pie contains added calcium carbonate alongside the naturally calcium-rich BSFL base. For species prone to metabolic bone disease (MBD), particularly juvenile bearded dragons and leopard geckos, this calcium fortification is genuinely valuable.

Carotenoid colouration support. The marigold, paprika, hibiscus, and other carotenoid-rich ingredients support natural colouration development — particularly relevant for species with bright pigmentation like crimson skinks and certain gecko morphs.

Picky eater management. Some individual animals reject specific live foods or develop food aversions. Grub Pie's strong scent often overcomes refusal, providing a backup feeding option for difficult individuals.

Juvenile transition support. Young insectivores transitioning from exclusively-live diets to more varied feeding benefit from Grub Pie as a familiar-tasting bridge to other supplementary foods.

How Grub Pie Compares to Other Repashy Products

Grub Pie sits within the broader Repashy range. Here's how it relates to alternatives:

  • vs Bug Burger: Bug Burger is a feeder enhancer — you feed it TO your insects (crickets, dubia, mealworms) to improve their nutritional content before they're fed to your reptiles. Grub Pie is fed directly to your reptiles as the food itself. Different applications: Bug Burger improves your live feeders, Grub Pie supplements or replaces them.
  • vs Morning Wood: Morning Wood is a calcium-fortified detritivore supplement for terrestrial isopods, springtails, and similar detritivore cultures. Grub Pie is for vertebrate insectivores. Different target species entirely.
  • vs Bottom Scratcher: Bottom Scratcher is an aquatic invertivore gel for fish and aquatic invertebrates. Grub Pie is a terrestrial insectivore gel for reptiles and amphibians. Different ecological domains.
  • vs Soilent Green: Soilent Green is an algae-based gel for fish, shrimp, and tadpoles. Grub Pie is insect-based for reptiles. Different species categories entirely.

For reptile/amphibian keepers, Grub Pie is the right Repashy product. For bioactive setup keepers also running aquatic systems, you might also consider Bottom Scratcher or Soilent Green for the aquatic components.

How to Prepare Grub Pie

Grub Pie offers multiple preparation formats depending on your feeding application:

Standard Gel

  1. Bring water to a rolling boil (kettle, stove, or microwave)
  2. Pour boiling water into a heatproof bowl
  3. Add powder at a ratio of 1 part powder to 2–3 parts boiling water
  4. Stir vigorously until smooth and fully combined
  5. Pour into a mould, container, ice cube tray, or flat dish
  6. Allow to cool and set at room temperature — typically 10–20 minutes
  7. Once firm, cut into appropriate-sized pieces or strips for your specific species

Jerky Format (Slow-Release)

  1. Prepare gel as above
  2. Pour onto a flat dish or into a deep container
  3. Once cool and set, cut into ¼ inch (6mm) thick slices
  4. Dry completely in oven or dehydrator at 65°C (150°F) until firm
  5. Store in airtight container at room temperature

Jerky form is particularly useful for crested geckos, day geckos, and other arboreal species that benefit from sticking food to enclosure surfaces.

Slurry/Paste Format

For species that prefer wet feeding or tongue-licking presentation (some geckos, chameleons), prepare with more water (1 part powder to 4-5 parts water) to create a thinner paste. Apply to a flat surface in the enclosure, on enclosure walls, or directly to a feeding dish.

Cubes for Larger Species

Use silicone ice cube trays to portion gel into individual feeding portions. Freeze cubes for long-term storage, defrost as needed. This works particularly well for bearded dragons and larger lizards where you want consistent portion sizes.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Unopened powder: Store in original sealed packaging at room temperature. Long shelf life — check expiry date on packaging.
  • Opened powder: Seal tightly and store in cool, dry place. Use within 12 months for optimal freshness.
  • Prepared gel: Treat as fresh food. Refrigerate sealed for up to 2 weeks. Freeze for up to 6 months.
  • Prepared jerky: Store in airtight container at room temperature for several months once fully dried.

Size Variants — Which Should You Buy?

Grub Pie is available in three sizes:

  • 85g (3oz): Trial size — perfect for testing acceptance with specific animals before committing to larger quantities. Makes approximately 340g of gel after preparation. Suitable for single-pet households or testing acceptance with picky feeders.
  • 170g (6oz): Standard size — the mid-range option for regular feeding. Makes approximately 680g of gel. Reasonable balance of cost and supply for keepers with a small collection of insectivorous reptiles.
  • 340g (12oz): Value size — bulk option for serious keepers, multi-animal collections, or breeding operations. Makes approximately 1.4kg of gel. Most cost-effective per gram for keepers feeding Grub Pie regularly across multiple animals.

The 1:3 powder-to-gel ratio means each gram of dry product produces 3-4 grams of finished gel — significant feeding volume from compact storage.

Important Feeding Note: Balanced Diet Required

Repashy's own guidance is clear and worth emphasising: Grub Pie should be fed as part of a balanced diet, not as exclusive nutrition. Even though it's nutritionally comprehensive, no single food product replaces the variety that insectivorous species need for optimal long-term health.

Recommended approach for most insectivores:

  • Primary feeding: Live insects (crickets, dubia roaches, BSFL, mealworms in moderation) gut-loaded with appropriate nutrition (consider using Bug Burger for your feeders)
  • Supplementary feeding (2–3x weekly): Grub Pie as additional protein and varied nutrition
  • For species needing vegetables: Appropriate fresh vegetables and fruits
  • Calcium supplementation: As needed depending on species and live insect base
  • Hydration: Fresh water always available

Grub Pie excels as part of varied feeding rather than sole nutrition. Even for picky feeders that accept Grub Pie when they reject other foods, work gradually toward incorporating live insects and varied feeding for long-term health.

Who Should Buy Grub Pie?

Ideal for:

  • Bearded dragon keepers wanting supplementary insectivore nutrition
  • Leopard gecko and fat-tail gecko keepers, particularly for picky feeders
  • Skink keepers (blue-tongued, pink-tongued, etc.)
  • Salamander and newt keepers
  • Dwarf monitor keepers
  • Day gecko and small lizard keepers
  • Anyone running combined isopod/reptile bioactive setups
  • Keepers wanting backup feeding options when live insects aren't available
  • Breeders managing multiple insectivorous reptile species
  • Owners of picky-feeding individuals who refuse processed pelleted foods

Not ideal for:

  • Purely terrestrial isopod setups — try Morning Wood instead
  • Aquatic fish or shrimp tanks — try Bottom Scratcher or Soilent Green instead
  • Strictly herbivorous reptiles (uromastyx adults, etc.)
  • Crested geckos specifically (use Repashy's dedicated Crested Gecko Diet instead)
  • As sole nutrition source (use as supplement to varied diet)

Tips for Optimal Use

Introduce gradually with new animals. Some individual reptiles may need encouragement to accept Grub Pie initially. Try offering small pieces near live insects, on tongs to mimic moving prey, or as a slurry on a feeding surface. Most species accept readily within a few feedings.

Match piece size to mouth size. Cut gel pieces appropriately — small pieces for geckos and small skinks, larger chunks for bearded dragons and monitors. Oversized pieces simply get rejected.

Vary your feeding regime. Grub Pie works best as part of varied feeding rather than sole nutrition. Combine with live insects, appropriate vegetables (for omnivorous species), and other supplements for complete dietary support.

Freeze portions in advance. Once prepared, freeze gel portions in ice cube trays for easy single-feeding access. Defrost as needed rather than preparing fresh every time. This is dramatically more convenient than daily preparation.

For picky feeders, try jerky. The dried jerky format has more concentrated scent than fresh gel, which can encourage difficult individuals to investigate and try. Particularly useful for leopard geckos and other notoriously picky species.

For bioactive setups, monitor consumption. If your enclosure contains isopods and springtails, they may consume uneaten Grub Pie before you can remove it. This isn't necessarily bad (cleanup crew benefits from extra protein), but it can mask whether your primary inhabitant is actually eating.

Building Your Repashy Range

Great for dry skin and the whole family
Size: 19 Ounce (Pack of 1)
We use this at home for everyone, including the kids, and it works really well. We all have pretty dry skin, and this cream keeps it hydrated for hours. I apply it after showering and it leaves the skin soft without feeling greasy. It has no strong scent, doesn’t irritate, and hasn’t caused any breakouts. I also feel comfortable using it on my kids because it’s gentle and effective. The jar lasts a long time since a little goes a long way. I would definitely buy it again.

Dry Skin Miracle!
Size: 8 Ounce
I have very dry skin, and around my chin and nose, it flakes and turns red, exposing my inner layer of skin due to severe dryness. I could never seem to hydrate it or get rid of the flakiness. I thought it was just my skin at this point, and I could do nothing to solve it. Now, I've never considered using Cerave; I've always heard negative things about it. However, I've never been a makeup person until now, when I want to try to elevate my look (not to mention I'm always in pain from a lack of hydration). The problem is, my skin is so dry that it cracks the makeup, preventing it from setting well on my face. Another problem is that around my nostrils, the flakiness looks like boogers, nasty. It's incredibly annoying. So I did a little research, and now I'm here. LET ME TELL YOU! This cream is amazing! I love how thick it is, and how a little goes a long way! My face, for the first time in my short life, is not dry! It's not buttery smooth, as in your hand won't glide against my face, but it won't feel the flakiness and roughness of my skin—and that's a game changer! I'm genuinely obsessed with randomly rubbing my face to feel the almost barrier of hydration, especially around my nostrils! I cannot explain the level of amazement I felt when I touched my nostril area to feel practically smooth skin. I felt as if it were a miracle. I've only used it for a week now, keep in mind, and this is how I feel. PLEASE BUY THIS IF YOU'RE LIKE ME! I'M SO HAPPY WITH THIS PURCHASE, AND IT'S WORTH ALL MY MONEY 🙏

Quietly effective leave-on exfoliant that smooths pores
Size: 1 Fl Oz
I bought this to tackle clogged pores and the occasional blackhead and to even out my skin without scrubbing harshly. I wanted a gentle option I could use daily without irritation, especially on the more sensitive areas around the nose and cheeks. In everyday use, I cleanse, pat dry, then apply a few drops and let it sink in. It dries down quickly, leaves no fragrance, and doesn’t feel sticky or harsh. It’s a liquid leave-on with 2% salicylic acid that helps unclog pores while smoothing dead skin, and I can follow with moisturizer and sunscreen without any trouble. What stood out the most is how it clears inside the pore and smooths texture over time. After several weeks I notice my skin looks more even and the fine lines around my eyes and mouth appear a touch softer. It feels hydrating while still doing the exfoliating job, which is nice to experience without extra dryness. A small note: there can be a brief, mild tingling if my skin is dry or I use too much at once, so I started with a smaller amount and every other day for a week. Sunscreen is still important during the day. Overall, it fits my routine well and I would rate it five stars.

Amazing exfoliating toner
Size: 4 Fl Oz
I am almost 40 and have had acne since puberty. I have tried so many products. The products that showed some improvement (like Proactiv) changed the texture of my face. Literally made my face feel like a basketball. I’ve tried some products that I’ll notice an improvement after a week or so, and the it would just stop working. I have never used something that so drastically helped my face in such a short amount of time. Notably, within 5 days my blemishes were almost gone. Within a week, my chin felt smooth instead of feeling the bumps of every clogged pore. The discoloration of my face, such as the redness, hasn’t totally disappeared, but it is improving. My face doesn’t feel oily throughout the day. My skin feels tighter, like I got a facelift. Moisturizer along with this product is important. And it is important to follow the directions and start slowly with this product. Use it every other day for the first week, gradually working your way up to daily and then twice a day. It is a shock to your skin and can dry it out if you go overboard. But for what I needed this product for, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. I couldn’t recommend it more. Just a heads up, it is applied like a toner. I expected a face wash, but it is a liquid that you apply to cotton and rub on your face. I wash with CeraVe SA cleanser, follow it with this, and apply whatever moisturizer you prefer—I’ve been using moisturizer with SPF so as to not damage my skin more than I already have.

If you actually understand how to use it, it's amazing.
Size: 4 Fl Oz
My skin type: - Very Dry, easily dehydrated - Oily nose - Prone to stubborn acne and closed comedones - Redness on chin and cheeks (not rosacea) I already use a nightly Tretinoin cream (.04% concentration) to help with my acne and premature signs of aging but decided with my derm that incorporating a BHA would be a good idea to help with my seriously stubborn closed comedones and some irritating textural issues. It was between this and the Cerave SA lotion and I ultimately decided on this due to the higher concentration of salicylic acid. It's moisturizing, and feels sticky for the first 5-10 minutes after application but seems to sinks in to something of a satin finish on me and I can no longer feel it on my skin. You just have to be a little patient. My skin feels well hydrated and plump after it settles and looks really smooth and my pores aren't as obvious. It sits just fine under makeup for me but I'm not a new user to chemical exfoliants so I don't have lots of dead skin pilling up or sloughing off when I use it, my skin is, for the most part, already very smooth outside the acne and CCs. Occasionally I'll apply it further down my neck/decolletage than usual and WOW do I old skin just ball up and peel right away - it's so gross but also satisfying. So those that don't exfoliate often or are new to BHA/AHAs will likely have issues with foundation until their skin adjusts (but it will adjust). My advice in those cases is to either use this at night for the first few weeks or just accept going barefaced for a little while if you can. I'd strongly suggest not applying this product over anything that you feel does not dry down fully, the times I've attempted to use it after serums or heavier products it takes forever to sink in and sometimes never fully does. I save all my serums and essences for after this has absorbed and it's far easier to work with it as a result. My steps go like this most days: ACWell Licorice toner --- PC 2% BHA --- 10% Niacinamide serum --- TO Matryxil serum --- Secret Key Black Snail cream or Syn-ake cream w/ 3 drops Stratia Fortify oil --- Sunscreen. It works fairly quickly IMO, on my neck where I typically don't apply my Tret at night I noticed the peeling and balling of dead skin on day one and on my face where I have a patch of really awful CCs I noticed them getting smaller and smoother by around day 3-4. I'm going on about 8 days now and they're barely visible unless I'm right up in the mirror and feel as if they're almost gone when I touch my fingers to that area. I do have some slight peeling of the skin around my mouth and nose but it's not terrible (likely because I already exfoliate the heck out of my skin with the tret). Some tips and things keep in mind: 1) DO NOT RINSE IT OFF. I don't understand some of the top reviews advising people to do that, it says on the bottle not to rinse and nearly all chemical exfoliators are meant to be left on until the next cleansing specifically so they can do their job. If you rinse it off you're either going to prevent it from properly exfoliating or end up irritating the hell out of your skin. If you have oily skin and feel this might be heavy on you than you can probably just use this on bare skin and then sunscreen if you use in the AM or a lightweight lotion/cream and be done with it, but you need to leave it on your skin. 2) You have got to use sunscreen while you're using this product! Any BHA or AHA exfoliant causes increased sun sensitivity and you have to address that in your routine. You should already use sunscreen daily but it becomes a must when you incorporate a chemical exfoliator or you risk sun damage. 3) Less is more! Don't slop this on your face or soak a cotton pad in it, a little goes a long way and you'll be kicking yourself if you apply way too much and have to wait 20+ minutes for it to sink in. Use a shake or two and add more if needed but go easy. 4) Expect some irritation initially. Chemical exfoliants can be harsh and rough even on sturdy skin and you have to give yourself time to adjust. Over-exfoliation is a possibility but sometimes just introducing a BHA or AHA into your routine can cause some sensitivity. Don't panic and just be gentle to your skin. Use ceramides (like Cerave Skin Renewing cream) or fatty oils to soothe your face if needed and try to stay away from any harsh products or acids like Vitamin C right after applying this to avoid really burning your face.
