More recent productions replicate the designs of the Ottoman Era and are characterised by subtle, stylised floral motifs on a single color, shaded, patina-like background. These rugs are typically woven with high quality sheep/lamb wool on a cotton base which allows for extremely tightly-woven, delicate designs to be achieved. Special pile shaving techniques are employed to produce the effect of lighter or darker appearance depending on orientation of the rug to the light.
