The Parker Duofold Ballpoint Pen - Black & Gold brings the timeless elegance of Parker's flagship writing instrument collection to an exceptionally practical everyday writer. Drawing upon more than a century of Duofold heritage, this sophisticated ballpoint pairs deep black precious resin with richly contrasting gold-plated appointments, creating a design that has become synonymous with refinement, professionalism, and enduring style.

While the Duofold collection is celebrated for its fountain pens, the ballpoint version offers the same distinguished aesthetic in a convenient, low-maintenance format. Its gently tapered silhouette, signature arrow clip, and polished finishes reflect the design language that has made the Duofold one of the most recognizable luxury writing instruments in the world.

Craftsmanship & Design

The Black & Gold edition embraces a classic combination that has remained relevant for generations. The polished black precious resin provides depth and understated sophistication, while the gold-plated trim introduces warmth and visual contrast. Every detail is carefully proportioned, from the elegant cap bands to the iconic arrow clip that has served as a hallmark of Parker craftsmanship for decades.

The Duofold's balanced proportions create a writing instrument that feels substantial without becoming cumbersome. Its clean lines and restrained styling allow the quality of the materials and finishing to take center stage, resulting in a pen equally suited to executive settings, personal collections, and daily use.

Writing Experience

The twist-action mechanism delivers the dependable operation expected from a premium ballpoint pen. Fitted with a Parker ballpoint refill, the Duofold provides smooth, consistent performance for note-taking, correspondence, signatures, and everyday writing tasks. The pen's comfortable weight and balanced construction contribute to a writing experience that feels both reassuring and refined.

The Legacy of the Duofold

Since its introduction in 1921, the Parker Duofold has represented the pinnacle of the company's craftsmanship and design philosophy. Originally celebrated for its bold appearance and exceptional reliability, the collection evolved into one of the most respected names in luxury writing instruments.

The Black & Gold ballpoint preserves this heritage while offering the convenience and practicality of a modern ballpoint format. It remains an ideal choice for those who appreciate timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship, and the enduring appeal of one of Parker's most iconic collections.

Hardy the poet
Format: Paperback
We all know Hardy the novelist, but perhaps he is less well known as a poet. In this volume of over 900 pages, with nearly 1,000 poems, Hardy is colorful, chatty, direct, lyrical, thoughtful, deep. And perhaps his finest quality - at least so I find - is the fact that he is down-to-earth. His poems are not "difficult" for a reasonably literate, experienced reader; and the rhyming is never forced. In short, his poems are a delight.

The other side of one of the giants of the Victorian era.
Format: Paperback
Thomas Hardy is my favorite novelist who has ever lived. I preface the review of this poetry anthology - which includes every one of the 900+ poems he wrote throughout his life, from the 1860s to just before his death in 1928 - in this way because I’m a bit biased. Hardy’s poetry is technically satisfying and nearly as moving as his novels, and you can tell that the same precision he brought to prose is on full display in his verse. I’m working my way through every single poem in this collection, and thus far my favorites are “The Convergence of the Twain” and “After the Last Breath.” There are other poets whose works I like better (Dickinson, Yeats, Wordsworth, and Whitman come to mind), but as an amateur Hardy scholar, reading this collection is positively invaluable to understand the full depth of his genius, and as always Wordsworth Classics delivers in terms of a quality paperback that should withstand years of enjoyment. I own many of their releases and have yet to find one that even slightly disappoints.
