The Pelizon family of stringed instrument makers, originating with Francesco Pelizon in what is present day Slovenia, are most notably associated with the Italian town of Gorizia, which was the base of their workshop operations under Antonio Pelizon I from the later years of the 18th century onwards. Antonio, and subsequently his four sons (Giuseppe Francesco, Antonio II, Carlo, and Filippo, all of whom succeeded him in the family business) are noted for their their slightly exaggerated style, and exhibit features also hinted at in the work of the slightly later maker Giovanni Dollenz, who is generally assumed to have been a student of Antonio I.

This violin boasts a rich and powerful tone on the G and D strings, offset (though well-balanced) by a sweetness and clarity over the A and E strings, and is extremely comfortable to play, easily responding to the player. An excellent instrument and priced very competitively.
