Patek Philippe Tank Oversize “Breguet Numerals” 18K Yellow Gold – Ref. 469 (1937)

A sublime expression of 1930s Art Deco elegance, this Patek Philippe Tank Oversize Ref. 469 embodies the maison’s early mastery of proportion, precision, and timeless style. Crafted in 18K yellow gold and powered by the legendary Caliber 9-90, it stands as a rare survivor of pre-war horology — distinguished by its applied Breguet numerals and elongated architectural form.

Confirmed by Extract from the Archives

The Extract from the Archives confirms that this Ref. 469 was manufactured and sold in 1937, specifically on November 8th, 1937. The extract also verifies the matching serial numbers of both case and movement, as well as the silver dial with applied 18K gold Breguet numerals. These details substantiate the watch’s authenticity and historical provenance.

The Dial – Breguet Elegance & Period Charm

The dial of this Ref. 469 is a rare specimen of Patek Philippe’s interwar aesthetic: refined, balanced, and quietly luxurious. Featuring applied Golden Breguet numerals and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock, it captures the golden ratio between artistry and precision.
While the dial was refinished at some point in its life, it remains faithful to the 1930s aesthetic, bearing the correct “Patek Philippe & Co” signature for the era. Light oxidation and patina enhance the charm of the applied numerals — a reminder of the watch’s nearly nine-decade journey.
Beneath its real glass crystal (soon to be replaced, with an original-style unit already ordered), the dial retains depth and texture that make it uniquely captivating.

The Case – Art Deco Geometry in 18K Gold

The 18K yellow gold Tank-style case measures 20 x 37.5 mm, a strikingly modern proportion for its time. Its clean, rectilinear lines embody the essence of Art Deco geometry, offering both elegance and presence on the wrist.
Both the inside and outside of the caseback carry personalized engravings — “Whiting Williams Cleveland 0” externally, and “Whiting from Caroline” internally — lending an evocative historical narrative to this example.
The case reference 469 and serial 615157 align perfectly with mid-1930s Patek Philippe production, reinforcing its authenticity. A Patek Philippe-signed crown (service crown) completes the ensemble, maintaining full period correctness and detail.

The Movement – Caliber 9-90 Precision

At the heart of this timepiece lies the revered Patek Philippe Caliber 9′-90″, a hand-wound mechanical movement celebrated for its slim profile and impeccable reliability. The movement serial 831686 matches the extract and confirms production in 1937.
Freshly serviced, the movement performs with exceptional accuracy — a testament to both its fine construction and the care it has received across generations.

Strap & Presentation

The watch is paired with a handmade Belgian alligator leather strap (16mm lug width), crafted to complement the vintage character of the piece. Due to CITES regulations, the real alligator leather strap cannot be exported outside the European Union; however, premium alternatives are gladly provided for international collectors.

Get Bejewelled
This box is very nice. It feels sturdy. The color is true to the product picture and the material feels nice. The size is as expected. This was a gift for a young woman; she loved it and that it was cute enough to "fill space" while also being functional.

Great for travel or countertop
I ordered 9 of these for my four girls and all my nieces- in two of the nine, the trays sunk in without holding up, the others were great! I love how I can keep them out and they look pretty, or pack them away in luggage for easy transportation!
