Crafted by the skilled Chulu family of the Luangwa Artisan Collective in Zambia, these baskets feature a distinctive square-bottom design that serves as their structural base.
Woven from ilala palm, each basket measures approximately 35 cm in diameter and requires about three days to complete. The naturally cream-colored fibrous leaves are carefully dried, then stripped and sliced to produce either fine or thick fibers, tailored to the specific style of each piece. This sustainable material is abundant, non-invasive, and integral to the basket’s durability and aesthetic.
