Poetry you can wear.  Light up your heart -- and your wardrobe.  This stunning dress is that just-right fit to elevate your wardrobe for everyday occasions and formal ones alike!

I DREAM IN FLOWERS

Sometimes — while oftentimes actually if we’re being honest — we design a piece for the purely selfish reason that we want to wear it ourselves ;) The I Dream in Flowers dress was definitely one of these pieces — created using a masterful floral oil painting from the early 1600’s by artist Jan Brueghel, and trimmed with an ink drawing of bumblebees found in a Victorian insect encyclopedia. It has the look and feel of a timeless, vintage piece that will never go out of style. You can also wear this piece two ways, with the dragonfly on the front of the bodice, or the back — depending on your mood.

FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, & TRUTH

Our beloved flt print is now a dress!! Featuring a more antiqued palette than the kimonos, with faded rose in place of the red. Adjustable straps, an oversized cut, and flowy bamboo viscose make it a wardrobe staple for layering, running errands, travel, dancing, lounging or even napping. This piece can be worn with the eye on the front of the bodice (so cool), or the flowers (so pretty). All the images in our flt print are historic symbols of friendship, love, and truth! The beehive represents cooperation, and the bundle of sticks is a symbol of teamwork and solidarity. The clasped hands signify trust and fellowship, and the heart-in-hand represents charity and kindness.

FOLKLORE

Folklore is our fairytale celebration of the Arts & Crafts movement, and our nod to the beauty of “non-finito” (art that is a work-in-progress). The printed Bird of Peace comes from an original hand stitched work by fibre artist, Kim Donohoe, who used single-ply thread to capture every detail of plumage. The background panels come from unfinished works created in 1885 by British artist, William Morris, whose original pencil sketch lines can be seen where the designs remain incomplete. We left these in intentionally, to celebrate the profound beauty of the artistic process. This dress is reversible! Wear it with the bird on the front of the back, depending on your mood.

AWAKENING

Created to embrace the transformative power of self love and awareness, this stunning slip dress combines two magical pieces of art: a lush 1700's landscape of the waterfalls at Tivoli, Italy, and an antique engraving depicting Lady Liberty created by E. Savage in 1796. We married them together to produce a rich, beautiful vision of a woman confidently stepping in to her own power. The painterly palette is romantic and strong, and it looks beautiful layered under our Awakening duster (available separately). You can also wear it two ways, with the woman on the front of the skirt, or the back — depending on your mood.

FLIGHT OF FANCY

What we can dream, we can do — against all odds! Hummingbirds are tiny beings of wonder. Weighing less than a nickel, they are the only bird that can fly backwards as well as forwards, with their little wings flapping an incredible 50 (or more!) times per second. They have the largest hearts relative to body size in the entire animal world. Symbols of hope, healing, and luck, hummingbirds are also sometimes said to represent well-wishings from loved ones — both here and departed. A flock of hummingbirds is called a glitter or a shimmer — or a bouquet! The bouquet in our exuberant print was created using a collage of breathtakingly beautiful floral paintings from the 1700’s.

LET THE LIGHT IN

Inspired by poet Leonard Cohen’s famous quote “There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in”, this design celebrates the ways our experiences shape us, and the perfect beauty of imperfection. Created using pieces of Delft tile from the 1700’s — including two Italianate landscape scenes — we chose to leave in the cracks and slight imperfections from the original ceramic in our final print. The trim comes from an 1867 British book on classical ornamentation, and an earthenware plaque from the Netherlands painted in 1780.

100% bamboo viscose.

Please note: The nature of our soft bamboo/wood viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend wearing a full or half-slip with this style.  Check out our Etoile Slip, specifically designed to layer perfectly with this dress.

An essential classic
Format: Paperback
The book has a scathing view of nobility and the upper class, with the regular people just a part of the scenery, so an allegory that has aged well and applies to modern times. I think it's an essential read to anyone who enjoys literature, as it can be argued that it's the genesis of many themes in modern stories.

Not bad, but still had flaws
Format: Paperback
While the novel was great in a way, I felt that it was outdated to me. It was written in the time that anti-heros were poorly made and if the creator of Reynard was aiming for Anti-hero when developing Reynard, he missed and hit sociopath instad. The pictures in the books are also outdated and laughable in our times. Reynard looks more like a shaved dog on the cover, I had a hard time identifying Noble the lion in his photos, ect. and the ending did`nt seem fullfilling though I felt a kick of excitment a few times.

Nice translation
Format: Paperback
It is not easy to translate poetry into poetry. It's bad enough simply trying to translate to prose. Ms. Terry does an excellent job. I read Le Roman de Renart in French while I was studying in France. Years later, I came across this translation. It is fascinating the way the original storytellers portrayed Renart. He is a completely hateful creature. Yet reading about him is fun. It's similar to how I feel about stories of Loki or Coyote. Renart is closer to Loki than to Coyote, despite the canine ancestry. He is more than simply a trickster: he is malevolent. If you have an interest in ancient folktales, you mustn't miss the story of Renart. This translation is different from any other I've read. The introduction gives a good perspective on the times when the stories were hatched.

Pretty good translation into English. Far from a complete collection, but certainly a good foundation.
