Lost for almost half a century and never before published, When Montana and I Were Young is a remarkable primary account of a child's life in the early part of the twentieth century. Margaret Bell (1888-1982) was a rancher and horse breaker whose memoir tells the story of a frontier childhood on the high plains of Montana and Canada. Hers was not a typical childhood. Bell was barely seven when her mother died, and her stepfather, Hedge Wolfe, moved Bell and her three younger half-sisters far from their nurturing grandmother to the Canadian plains and a life of extreme poverty, hardship, and abuse.Binding Type: Paperback

My daughter likes it
Format: Paperback
I bought this book for my reluctant to read 3rd grader. She reads it without me having to tell her to read, and is now carrying it in her backpack to school.

Captured a reluctant readers attention
Format: Kindle
We downloaded this book this morning for the Kindle. My daughter is a reluctant chapter book reader, but she saw the cover and was hooked. She loves cats. She read the whole book independently in one sitting and then started rereading it!
I think reading it on the Kindle helped because it gave her percentages of her progress and made her more motivated to finish it!

Cute, funny, and purrfect
Format: Paperback
My daughter and I have been reading this book and have had lots of laughs. We love Gray's personality 😆 It's so fun that it's intertwined with the Unicorn and Sprinkles books we've caught all the hints and when things have happened in the other books. My daughter hopes there will be more books for this series!

Right level
Format: Kindle
Easy to read. Was the right balance of chapter book with minimal pictures that helped my 7 year old stay engaged without needing a picture on every page. My reader made connection of characters/events from other stories by same author.
Review from 7 year old: "Liked that it was a cat with sunglasses."
