A mortar and pestle has been used for thousands of years, and is still in use in our electronic age, to grind spices or herbs into powder. It is also great for making spreads like hummus, pesto, and tapenades.


The inside glaze has been specially created so the ingredients do not slip about, stain the mortar or retain any odors. Its 4 rounded edges make it easy to handle. The pestle is made from beech wood, with a ceramic head. All Emile Henry products are made in France and offer a ten year guarantee.


Owned and operated by the Henry family for over six generations, Emile Henry has been developing quality ceramic bakeware and cookware in the Burgundy region of France, manufacturing their cooking products from Burgundy clay.
