The Canadian Joe Kennaway distinguished himself for many years in the 1930s, as did Willie Miller during the barren war years and the immediate aftermath. Both of these men were the epitome of reliability during years when everything else was changing.

Long ago there was a mighty threesome of Dan McArthur, Davie Adams and the legendary Charlie Shaw who had a song written about him by opposition supporters! In more recent times, Pat Bonner distinguished himself for Celtic and Eire in the World Cup.

Also the less happy goalkeepers as well. The one who was suspected of being drunk on New Year’s Day, the one who was suspected of taking bribes and the young reserve who was going to a game as a fan, given a lift by the team bus and ended up playing.

All these and a few more are detailed in this book written by David Potter and Marie Rowan, two passionate Celtic supporters who have already written a great deal on the history of the club.

Comic Excellence
Format: Paperback
An ALA Best Book for Young Adults, this graphic novel is one of a growing number of high quality comics appropriate for both young adult as well as adult audiences. I particularly like the way the book blends the western and science fiction themes. Daisy Kutter is a fascinating character with more depth than many graphic novels. I look forward to other books in this series.

The Hipster Spies With His Mystic Eye Something That Begins With--The Old West through a fractured lens
Format: Paperback
Set in a strange, Futurist version of the Wild West, female ex-bandit Daisy Kutter is tricked into one last train robbery. But all is not as it seems. It has wry humor, an appealing lead character, a real feel for the West, & fun art. I'll bet my eyeteeth the cartoonist has a shelf full of Lamour Westerns at home. This belongs in an odd little sub-genre called the Weird West, claimed equally by Westerns, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, all set in the latter half of America's 19th Century, & west of the Mississippi. I wanna see more of Miss Daisy Kutter. The Hipster gives it a big Thumbs Up!

Good story, strong female lead.
Format: Paperback
Always good to see a powerful story whose protagonist is strong but still human, with dimension and depth... and a woman. Not enough of that in our society, but at least it's here.
