180gm vinyl LP pressing. After hitting the top 10 twice with "You're Only Lonely" and his duet with James Taylor, "Her Town Too," JD Souther released his only album of the '80's and his last solo effort for two decades - 1984's Home By Dawn, produced by David Malloy (Eddie Rabbit, Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire). As Souther took distinctive creative turns with each release, Home By Dawn emerged at the beginning of the new wave of country music. In fact, legendary producer/engineer, and David's father, Jim Malloy (Townes Van Zandt, Eddy Arnold, Sammi Smith) told Souther, "You were about 15 minutes ahead of your time!" That timing was confirmed when Dixie Chicks covered "I'll Take Care Of You" on their 12x Platinum Wide Open Spaces. From rock to roots-rock to rockabilly, Home By Dawn took Souther in a direction reflecting his Texas upbringing and has proven to be an important and influential album, indeed released before it's time. Now is the perfect time to discover, or rediscover it.

So far so good
Color: Brown
I have had issues with other models/variations of the timex expedition in the past, so I was hesitant to get an even more expensive version of it, but I just really liked this watch so I gave it a shot. I was looking for a new “daily driver” watch as I have a bunch of nicer, more expensive watches that I didn’t want to wear to work at a hospital. I like the solar charging feature for sure as I change my own watch batteries and it can be a pain sometimes. It’s a nice weighty watch, which I like because it feels solid, not cheap. So far it seems to be keeping time well, which is an issue I’ve had with other expeditions in the past. I really like the look of this watch a lot. It’s a sharp looking watch without being too flashy or fancy so it can be worn with just about any attire. I will note that because of the solar feature, it needs to be charged well before setting the time. I placed it under a led light for about 24 hours before setting the time and using it and when I don’t wear it I place it near a window. So far I’m really liking it, but I haven’t had it long enough to really know about long-term reliability. I will update if any issues arise.

Timex Expedition Solar a no frills fine watch
Color: Brown/Blue
The watch came uncharged. I guess you're supposed to charge the watch by exposing it to sunlight. There was no sunlight and I wasn't about to wait for any. I placed it in front of one of my ultra-bright led flashlights for about 5 hours that night. It's been working fine ever since. I'll expose it to sunlight when I see some. It's a nice looking watch, no bells and whistles but it's been keeping excellent time. I swapped out the band for a NATO which I find more dependable. The price shouldn't put you in the poor house and if it's like all the other Timex watches I've owned, I'll be happy with it.

Great watch. Janky quartz. Bad strap.
Color: Brown
It’s got all the specs one could want in a field watch, but I can’t get over the janky quartz movement. The second hand overshoots and undershoots the second markers notably throughout its rotation. Also, the leather strap provided does not age well, it turns a dark brown and develops cracks in short order. Still, especially if nabbed on sale, the watch is well worth it and will probably outlive the wearer.

Long sun battery.
Color: Brown
Great. Looks good, feels great and the solar can wait 5 days w/o sun in a box.

A nice durable non flashy field watch.
Color: Olive/Gunmetal, Color: Olive/Gunmetal
A nice looking, none flashy field watch. At 41mm it’s not too big and not too small. The sapphire crystal is a big plus on scratch resistance; and the screw in crown is a nice addition as well. If you’re looking for a low key, reliable solar powered field watch that is both comfortable, affordable and has durability built into it, this one will be hard to beat.
