The Blackmagic Design Spares - Camera URSA Mini - XLR Input Cable is an internal replacement loom that connects the two professional XLR audio inputs on the camera's chassis to the internal Audio or Main PCB.

Unlike an external microphone cable, this is a delicate, shielded internal component designed to carry balanced analog signals through the cramped, electronically "noisy" environment of the camera body without picking up interference from the high-speed processors or fans.

Anatomy of the Cable

This spare usually consists of:

  • Dual XLR Female Headers: High-quality, locking 3-pin connectors that mount flush to the URSA Mini's side or rear panel.

  • Shielded Twisted-Pair Wiring: Each channel is individually shielded to prevent "crosstalk" and electromagnetic interference (EMI).

  • Internal Multi-Pin Connector: A small Molex or fine-pitch header that snaps onto the internal audio circuitry of the camera.

When to Replace This Cable

While the XLR ports are rugged, they are subject to significant mechanical stress over time.

  • Physical Port Damage: If a heavy XLR cable is yanked or tripped over, it can bend the internal pins of the port or snap the solder joints where the wire meets the connector.

  • "Crackle" or Signal Drop: If you lose audio when the plugged-in XLR cable is wiggled, it usually indicates that the internal wire has frayed or the shielding has failed inside the camera.

  • Broken Locking Latches: If the silver "push" tab on the XLR port falls off or snaps, the internal assembly usually needs to be replaced to ensure microphones stay securely locked in.

  • Phantom Power Issues: If the camera fails to provide 48V power to a specific port, but the software settings are correct, there may be a short or a break in the internal power delivery wire within this loom.

Technical Installation Note

Replacing the internal XLR cable involves opening the URSA Mini's outer magnesium shell. It is a "Level 2" repair, requiring patience and the right tools.

  • Chassis Access: You will need to remove the side panel screws. Keep track of these, as they are often different lengths and must go back into their specific holes to avoid puncturing internal components.

  • Sealing and Gaskets: When removing the old XLR ports, be careful not to lose or tear the rubber weather-sealing gaskets. These prevent dust and moisture from entering the electronics through the audio ports.

  • Cable Routing: Pay close attention to how the original cable is routed. Blackmagic designs the internal layout strictly; if the new cable is routed incorrectly, it can be pinched by the cooling fans or crushed when you screw the side panel back on.

  • Strain Relief: Ensure the ports are screwed tightly to the chassis before connecting the cable to the internal board. The chassis should take the mechanical weight of external cables, not the internal PCB.

Compatible Models

This spare is generally standardized for the URSA Mini chassis, including:

  • URSA Mini 4K / 4.6K

  • URSA Mini Pro 4.6K (G1 / G2)

  • URSA Mini Pro 12K

  • URSA Broadcast / Broadcast G2

Pro Tip: If you are hearing a "hum" in your audio, check if the issue persists when the camera is running on battery vs. AC power. If it only happens on AC, the problem might be a ground loop in your power supply rather than a faulty internal XLR cable.

Are you losing audio on just one channel, or are both ports acting up?

Very Good Godot Book
Format: Paperback
Great book overall! Best suited for beginners as it literally begins by conceptually introducing variables, operators, etc. Still, it's very Godot. And nicely up-to-date as well, focusing on Godot 4.x and GDScript 2. Note though that the book only covers 2D, which is a shame. Hopefuly, the author is hard at work on a text thast starts where this one ends and moves on to explore 3D in Godot. The illustrations are little muddy, but fortunately, Packt offers free downloads of (much crisper) PDFs with proof of purchase.

One of the book's standout features is its in-depth approach. It covers the fundamentals thoroughly, ensuring that readers build a strong foundation in GDScript. The inclusion of numerous code examples is particularly beneficial, providing practical insights into how to implement various features and mechanics within Godot 4. Visual learners will appreciate the thoughtfully placed pictures throughout the book. While not overly abundant, these visuals effectively complement the text, helping to clarify complex concepts and enhance understanding. Despite Godot's increasing support for C#, the focus on GDScript in this book is well-justified. GDScript is tightly integrated with Godot, making it an excellent choice for rapid development and learning. The book's code-centric approach ensures that readers gain hands-on experience, which is crucial for mastering any programming language. Overall, "Learning GDScript with Godot 4" is an excellent resource for anyone looking to learn or deepen their knowledge of GDScript and Godot 4. An Excellent Introduction to Game Programming using GDScript/Godot
Format: Paperback
You’ll get up and going quickly with an overview of Godot and then jump straight into GDScript by learning about variables, control flow, collections, loops, object-oriented programming, and concepts like DRY, KISS, etc. Then the fun begins by building game mechanics while learning specifics of Godot such as the node/scene system, reusing scenes, cameras, collision detection, creating user interfaces, and more. It also covers local multiplayer where you'll learn the basics of computer networking followed by learning about built-in multiplayer nodes provided by Godot. The final chapters cover some advanced programming patterns like event bus, object pooling, and state machines. By the end, you’ll have a fully playable single/local multiplayer game in the style of Vampire Survivors! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book and highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get started on their journey to learn programming and even for experienced game programmers who want to learn Godot and GDScript.
