The Metropolitan Club of New York is a private social club on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded as a gentlemen's club in 1891 for men only, but it was one of the first major clubs in New York to admit women, though they still represent a minority.

History
The Metropolitan Club was formed in 1891 by J. P. Morgan, who served as its first president. It was actually the second organization with that name in its neighborhood. The New York Times reported on March 10, 1891, about the name selected two days previous:

There is already a Metropolitan Club, which for some years has occupied quarters in the neighborhood in which the millionaires think of building.

Other original members of the club included William Kissam Vanderbilt and James A. Roosevelt. "Each member, which included Vanderbilts and Whitneys, contributed $5,000 to buy the plot of land."

Clubhouse
The architects of the original building (erected in 1893) were McKim, Mead & White. The east wing, erected in 1912, was designed by Ogden Codman Jr. Its 1894 clubhouse, designed by Stanford White, stands at 1 East 60th Street, on the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue. The land on which the Clubhouse stands (with a frontage of 100 feet (30 m) on Fifth Avenue and 200 feet (61 m) on 60th Street) was acquired from the Duchess of Marlborough who signed the purchase agreement in the United States Consulate in London. Cornelius Vanderbilt II signed the purchase agreement on behalf of the club.

The address for parking is 11 East 61st Street.

House rules
The Metropolitan Club maintains a dress code as part of its house rules:

Men must wear jackets and ties – "turtlenecks and ascots are not acceptable."
Ladies should wear "dresses, skirts, dressy pant suits, or business pant suits."
"Jeans, shorts, stirrup pants, leggings, stretch pants, tight pants, sweats and T-shirts are absolutely not acceptable."
Cell phones and laptops are prohibited in the Club except in private meeting rooms and bedrooms

Extremely comfortable
Color: 02-multicolour (4-pack), Size: X-Large
These are by far the softest and most comfortable underwear I have ever owned. The leg portion absolutely does roll up as so many others have mentioned, however, I did not find that to be uncomfortable at all just annoying that they don’t stay in place. I bought these specific underwear to see if it would help alleviate HS symptoms at all. They have definitely helped with wicking moisture away from the skin. More time will tell if it’s truly helpful for HS. For now, I will recommend these. They are thin, breathable, butter soft, wick moisture comfortable and I would buy again…maybe in a different style next time. I have washed them several times and they seem to be holding up rather well so that is also of supreme importance given the cost of the item. Again, I would recommend this item and plan on purchasing more in a different style very soon.

Eaten by my Thighs
Color: 04-multicolour (4-pack), Size: X-Large
I wanted to love them. Sadly they have let me down. Pros: natural breathable fabric , super soft and comfortable, cotton panty gussets for feminine health and panty liners will stick!! Yay:). And the colors! They are great! But here’s the Con. And it’s the con of all cons. THEY RIDE UP!! Eaten by my thighs. I’m 5’6” and in the general area of 175. I fluctuate depending on how many times I visit the bakery! :) I don’t have a thigh gap but it is not a super tight thigh squeeze. I seldom have thigh climb but these do. I tried two different sizes to see if that made a difference. Nope. I was miserable at a recent theme park in these. I was wearing long heavy dresses and it was quite awkward to yank these legs down non stop. They feel amazing and they have all the requirements 1. Soft 2. Comfortable and stretches with you 3. Breathable with nice thin fabric. Not bulky 4. Natural fibers 5. Great colors If you are a person that is not blessed with Thunder Thighs, please order these. They are great! I wear them at home and to locations that I will not be doing a lot of walking at. I have washed them so many times and they look like new still.

Best Boxer Briefs for Women!
Color: 09-multicolour (4-pack), Size: Large
I rarely give 5⭐️’s but these deserve it! Hands down, the most comfortable material, stitching, waistband, moisture wicking and overall comfort. They sit right beneath my bellybutton, they wash and dry well and they’re sturdy. I have tried 3 styles and these are the best.

Comfortable and cool. Does not ride up.
Color: 01-multicolour (4-pack), Size: Medium
Extremely comfortable. Stays cool. Ample coverage. Quality material. They do not creep up. I ordered a medium which I generally take a size small. I have reordered and will reorder again to add more colors to my collection.

Great Value for Cool Thigh Protection
Color: 02-multicolour (4-pack), Size: XX-Large
For the price, I'm not sure there are better women's boxer shortlettes anywhere. I've tried more expensive brands, and for quality and cooling, these are right up there. I have other bamboo viscose undies that still get gross when I get sweaty in the summer, but these, with the large mesh panel, really help wick away a lot of that moisture, keeping you feeling dryer and cooler. I find that the leg openings are comfortable and don't roll up! and the waist band doesn't dig, nor does it roll down. These do not provide any compression, and I wasn't looking for any. I just wanted some cooling, thigh protecting women's boxers that wouldn't break the bank. These are them! Bonus- I've washed them and put them in the dryer (following their instructions), and they haven't shrunk; they look about the same and are nice and soft.
