History comes alive through the eyes of 18 generations of the Fitch family from 1466-1984. The author uses family stories and historical research to help us imagine the lives, times, hopes, dreams and struggles of those living in each generation. Experience what life was like during the Puritan revival in England and the bold decision of James Fitch to make the perilous ocean crossing at age 16 to become a student under the illustrious Thomas Hooker who is known as the "father of Connecticut."

Take an in-depth look at the life of James Fitch as he journeys into the wilderness to become a co-founder of Norwich, Connecticut and the spiritual leader of his community and the state.

Meet Major John Mason, father-in-law of James and a fearless military and political leader of the colony of Connecticut. Read about the infamous raid on the Indian fort in Mystic Connecticut that caused him to be revered as a hero by the colonists. And learn how his reputation has changed in our day because of the massive bloodshed.

Explore James Fitch and his relationship with the Mohegan chief or Sachem, Uncas, who allied with the Colonists. The two often marched together into battles against hostile Indian tribes. Yet they personally clashed when it came to the question of whether Uncas ever embraced Christianity or whether he pretended to convert for the sake of an advantageous alliance with the British who had horses and guns.

After James you will meet Fitch family members who participated in the Revolutionary War and explore the vital role the local militias played in supporting Washington's army. You'll find out the surprising reason Ephraim Fitch voted against ratification of the Constitution of the United Sates. You'll journey with generation after generation of hardy Fitch men and women who settled the frontiers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Minnesota.

And finally, you will meet the more recent generations who have stories that create the backbone of our country with lives lived in small towns, growing cities working blue collar jobs. Through them we will experience the Great Depression and World War II and the prosperity of the 1950's and 1960's. .

Good Basic Chair with a Few Drawbacks
Color: Black
I bought this Amazon Basics office task chair for my boyfriend who works from home. Overall, it’s a decent, simple chair that gets the job done for everyday use, especially if you just need something functional and affordable. However, there are a couple of downsides. The recline doesn’t go back as much as he would like, so it’s not ideal if you prefer to lean back and relax between tasks. Also, after about a month of use, the wheels don’t glide as smoothly as they did at first, which can be a bit frustrating when rolling across the floor. Overall, it’s a solid basic chair for light use, but if you want something with a deeper recline or super smooth mobility long-term, you might want to consider other options. Still a reasonable purchase depending on your needs.

Had for just over 9 years now and still pretty solid
Color: Black
I ordered this chair back in December 2015 for our front office, and it's been moved to our back shop where we fabricate. We're not a gentle work space by any stretch of the imagination; we build stuff and it's messy, lots of tools etc. This chair has held up surprisingly well! The faux leather is delaminating almost entirely on the seat but honestly, I'd expect that for faux leather on something that is used daily. The seat pad, in my opinion, has gotten de-poofed. So it's not plush anymore but still usable. I've asked the guy that's using it if they want an upgrade/update and they said they like it and don't want to change it out just yet. That's saying something! The size is nice and wide. We've had a range of differently sized folks sit in the chair over the years and the seat was always comfortable (less now without so much seat poof), I was able to sit cross-legged and the whole chair felt sturdy then as it does now. All of the standards functions you'd want an office chair to do, it can still do: it goes up and down smoothly, it rolls just fine, it's still pivot-reclines comfortably and doesn't feel like it's going to topple. I like it!

Good enough
Color: Black
Comfortable chair. Easy to put together. Allen nuts aren't cut perfectly so sometimes hard to get the wrench in there. My biggest complaint, and I didn't even realize this until I sat down in it, the arm rests are not adjustable and they are a little short for my liking.
