"Hard to go past this guy when it comes to vaule-for-money quality drinking. Oodles of ripe blackcurrant and dark, spicy plum character with a trace of bay leaf and lightly toasted oak. The palate is dense and rich with grainy tannin influence that cuts through the dark choccies and ripe black fruit richness. You can have something pretty bold with this if you wish" Ray Jordan, The West Australian, Jan 2022

Deep red with ruby hues. The wine exhibits vibrant, characteristic aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blueberries, and dark plums meshed with hints of bay and licorice and subtle spicy, toasty oak. The generous palate is packed full of juicy fruits of the forest, cassis and chocolate characters. Medium to full-bodied, the fleshy fruits are supported by moreish, supple and ripe tannins. A balanced wine, with a persistent fruit finish with beautiful regional savoury inflections of bay, black olive and licorice.

A red blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Shiraz, 3% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot grown in Western Australia. Fruit for this blend was predominantly Estate grown (86%) on our Boodjidup and Stevens Road vineyard in the Wallcliffe sub-region of Margaret River and complimented by fruit sourced from mature vineyards in the Wilyabrup and Treeton sub-regions.

The growing season began with a late budburst after a relatively cold Winter with reasonable rainfall. The cool spring which followed resulted in some uneven flowering and fruit set, and generally lower than average yields. We experienced a significant (and unusual) rain event midJanuary which was timely due to the later season, and this was followed bysome fine, mild weather to get vintage underway. There was a complete lack of Marri blossom leading up to and during harvest which meant that bird pressure was extreme! Bird-netting was vital this season. There was a minor rain event coupled with high humidity mid-March which presented some challenges requiring careful fruit selection with some white varieties; however, this gave way to some beautiful weather right through untill late April.

The fruit was crushed and destemmed then fermented in a combination of rotary and static fermenters at 26°C for 5–7 days. A portion of the blend was left for a period of extended maceration on skins followed by a gentle pressing adding plushness and a savoury, textural element to the wine. The various batches underwent MLF in tank followed by 14 months’ maturation in a selection of French oak barriques (20% new).

An excellent story well worth a read
Format: Kindle
This was so well written, I loved every second of it. It was a lovely take on vampires and what they are or can be. Spoilers: This wasn’t an easy read for me. How Miyako’s parents acted… that was my parents only worse in a lot of ways and only better in that they never hit me as an adolescent. So reading this brought up memories of the abuse I suffered. Even so, it is a really good story and I highly recommend. I hope to read more of her stories soon and follow Miyako and see how she and her family grow as characters.

Trans, sapphic vampires?! YES PLEASE!
Format: Kindle
Before I just go recommending this book to everyone, please be in mind that there is misgendering, deadnaming, and slurs pertaining to transgendered people in the book. The author is a trans woman, so all of these instances are addressed on page. I am a lover of all things vampire, and when my kindle recommended this trans, sapphic romance, I couldn't hit the buy button fast enough. Miyako is a trans woman who wants more to life since coming out as trans. The two joys in her life are Luna (her best friend) and River (her sister). Miyako begrudgingly accompanies Luna to see her favorite band, but she doesn't expect to meet actual vampires who agree to turn both her and Luna. After Miyako is turned, she finds herself in a body that finally reflects the way that she has always felt, a burgeoning crush on a gorgeous vampire who hates her, and other lingering dangerous that she didn't anticipate. I freaking loved Miyako. Miyako has always been so sure of herself and her identity regardless of what others think of her, including her trash ass parents that deserve to burn in the pits of hell (sorry not sorry). Miyako also will do any and everything to protect those she loves, which includes protecting her sister River from the bigoted and trashy parents. Found family is the central theme of this book. Once you are turned, you are immediately accepted into the coven of Hell's Redemption, they do ANYHTHING for their own including providing a place to live and protection. I loved seeing this, and this is so important for queer folks who would otherwise have no support system. While this book does have several romantic pairings and soulmates is a big theme as well, the intimate scenes are fade to black, which works for this book (in my opinion). I can't wait for the next book, so I can get more of these amazing characters!

Sure hope there's a sequel
Format: Kindle
This books was lots of fun, with characters to love and hate, though the awful characters aren't around much, thank goodness. The world building is really good, but there's so much more to learn that I hope there's another book in the works.
