Abhängig von der Konfiguration der knöchernen Orbita kann ein Messwert von 15 mm bereits als pathologisch, ein Wert von 21 mm hingegen noch als normal zu werten sein.
Verlaufskontrollen sind demnach von größerer Bedeutung als Einzelmesswerte. Auch findet man gewisse physiologische Unterschiede in der exorbitalen Prominenz beider Augen
