Bell, Akelei öffnet nicht einfach einen Blick auf eine Blume. Sie zeigt einen Moment, in dem Wahrnehmung selbst fragil wird. Die Akelei erscheint nur teilweise konturiert, als würde sie im Akt des Betrachtens zugleich entgleiten und sich neu bilden. So rückt ein Bereich ins Zentrum, der unser Sehen zwar immer schon trägt, im Alltag jedoch selten bewusst wird: der Zwischenraum zwischen dem, was ein Objekt anbietet, und dem, wie wir es interpretieren. Normalerweise überdecken unsere schnellen Zuordnungen diesen Raum, weil Wahrnehmung zu effizient arbeitet, um ihre eigene Offenheit sichtbar zu machen.

Die Offenlegung eben dieses Zwischenraums verweist auf eine Erfahrung, die jeder Theorie vorausliegt: dass Bedeutung nicht im Objekt ruht, sondern im Vorgang des Erkennens entsteht. Die Akelei ist hier keine botanische Form, sondern ein Ereignis des Sichtbarwerdens - ein Gefüge aus dem zarten Angebot der Erscheinung und der Aufmerksamkeit, die es empfängt. Ihre fragile Präsenz legt nahe, dass Wirklichkeit nicht aus festen Einheiten besteht, sondern aus Beziehungen, die nur im Zusammenspiel von Objekt und Betrachter aufscheinen.

Bell, Akelei is not simply the depiction of a flower. It reveals a moment in which perception itself becomes fragile. The columbine appears only partially contoured, as if slipping away and forming anew in the very act of being seen. In this way, a domain comes into focus that always already underlies our perception, yet rarely becomes conscious in everyday life: the interval between what an object offers and how we interpret it. Our quick acts of categorization usually cover over this space, because perception works too efficiently to reveal its own openness.

Exposing precisely this interval points to an experience that precedes any theory: that meaning does not reside in the object, but emerges in the process of recognition. Here, the columbine is not a botanical form but an event of becoming visible - a configuration resulting from the delicate offer of the appearance and the observer who receives it. Its fragile presence suggests that reality is not composed of fixed units, but of relations that surface only in the interplay between object and observer.

Künstlerstatement: 
Bell ist ein Radierung, die aus purer Liebe zur Linie entstanden ist. Der Künstler nennt diesen Zeichenansatz „Just looking“ (einfach nur schauen). In diesem Fall hat er einfach eine Blume betrachtet und nicht kontrolliert, wie die Linie über die Kupferplatte verlief. So entstand ein freies Set von Linien durch einen unzensierten Blick. Die aquarellähnlichen Farbflächen wurden erzeugt, indem direkt mit der Säure auf die Kupferplatte gezeichnet wurde, die mit Aquatintstaub bedeckt war. Viele technische Schritte sind erforderlich, obwohl es so frei und einfach aussieht. Der Titel „Bell“ ist eine Mischung aus Englisch und Französisch. „La Belle“ bedeutet die Schöne und „The Bell“ im Englischen ist nun einmal eine Glocke.

Artist statement:
Bell is an intaglio print that was made for the pure love for the line. The artist calls this drawing approach „Just looking“. In this case he just looked at a flower and didn’t control the way the line travelled over the copperplate. Thus a free set of lines was created by an uncensored view. The wash like colour-fields where made by drawing directly with the acid onto the copperplate that was covered with aquatint dust. Many technical steps are needed although it looks so free and easy. The title bell is a mix of English and French. La Belle meaning the beautiful and The Bell in English, well is a bell.

So far, after only wearing it a handful of days, I have already fallen deeply in love with this jacket. But that is where the criticisms start and end, and is why I wish there were a way to give a product a 4.5 stars review here on Amazon. Otherwise, this is a must buy for anyone looking for a winter jacket that packs a bit more visual finesse than a typical puffer jacket. If only I had the sense to buy a winter jean jacket such as this one sooner rather than later!
