Die französische Königsgarde wurde im 16. Jahrhundert zum Schutz des Königs und seiner Familie gegründet. Die Garde setzte sich aus Soldaten der Schweizer Garde und der französischen Infanterie zusammen. Die Garde war für die Bewachung des königlichen Palastes und der Gemächer des Königs zuständig. Sie begleitete den König auch auf Reisen und bei Zeremonien. Während der Französischen Revolution von 1789 wurde die Garde aufgelöst.
